A Gentle Mystery
We have been reading J.H. Sweet's fairy books and were so pleased to find another series written by her. This mystery book is a good story for around ages 7-11. I like the personalities of the characters, particularly the children--they are helpful and considerate. When not tracking down the clues to solve the mystery of the "message in the transom" they are doing bake sale fundraisers and helping to paint the town square gazebo. They are having fun on their summer break even without expensive equipment or playthings. The reminds me of a much simpler time and I believe sets a good example for the children of today. The action of the book is very gentle, with the characters using their brains more than brawn. Though there is little danger in this story, there is plenty of action and it is still interesting enough to hold our interest. I think it is a gentle mystery, but very worth reading.
