Product Description

When Tom Fellows proclaims that a Venn diagram is a far better way of illustrating modern family ties than a traditional tree, his young daughter Andrea has no idea that he is referring to their own situation. It is only when she loses both parents in a shocking car accident that she takes an interest in her own genealogy and begins to realize that her perfect upbringing was not all that it seemed. "Half-truths & White Lies" is a beautifully crafted, thought-provoking novel that questions the influence of the people who are missing from our lives. It examines the thin line between love and friendship, looking at our complex emotional needs. It also explores how one woman's life is dictated by her desire for children, whilst another's is shaped by her decision not to have them.

Customer Reviews

An engaging and thought provoking read5
I loved this book, I found the style of writing very easy to read and the story was captivating.

This is the story of Andrea who is thrown into a situation that makes her see the people behind her perfect childhood in a different light. As the tale unravels it takes you back & forth to the late 1970's to experience Tom, Laura, Peter & Faye's friendships and how their lives are entwined by the decisions they do and don't make. It ultimately draws you in as you want to find out what happens to each of the characters, what consequences they paid for their actions & what effect it has on Andrea in the present day.

The characters are beautifully written & we see each side of this very engrossing story through the journey that each one takes. The author has really captured the essence of the 1970's, in her language and references and although I was a young child then it did bring back lots of happy memories for me.

I did not want to put this book down5
I really enjoyed this book. I have two small children, so I don't have a lot of time on my hands. However, I found myself wanting to sneak off and read a couple of pages whenever I could.

The book it beautifully written, the characters are well developed and story is imaginative and well told.

If you are looking for a good read, look no further.

A jolly good read5
Really enjoyed this book, can be read in a couple of sittings because you need to know what is going to happen next to interesting characters. It really highlighted the fact that nearly all families have secrets and are not always as they appear. Also loved the seventies setting, made me quite nostalgic and you can't always say that about the seventies
