There are some people you'd do anything for...For Fran that list would include her husband, Max, her daughter, and her best friend, Alison. Only Alison is now desperately ill and she needs Fran's help. She wants to find her husband a new wife, and leave her young daughter with a new mother. Fran finds the whole idea deeply uncomfortable, but it's hard to refuse your closest friend at the best of times, let alone ignore her dying wishes. So Fran reluctantly logs on to an internet dating site, where she stumbles across a startlingly familiar profile. 'Footloose' describes himself as divorced, but his photo looks exactly like Fran's husband, Max. What's a wife to do when she suspects her husband's cheating and can't bear to confront him outright? Posing as 'Sassy', Fran sends a reply to 'Footloose' and sets out to date her own husband...But this increasingly crazy plan leads Max to start to have doubts of his own. Torn between suspicion and love, life for Fran just got very complicated - can her marriage survive?

Review
'The depiction of the friendship between the two women at a time of crisis in their lives is realistic and moving.'
From the Author
When I wrote Husbands and Lies, I tried to tell a story that people would want to read - something with a bit of substance that explored some tough issues in a way that didn't leave you wanting to slash your wrists. I find humour is often the key to coping with the challenges that life throws at us, and it was important for me to make that an integral part of my writing.
I lost a close friend to cancer in 2002. Telling Fran's story helped me explore my feelings about what happened to my friend and in some degree to come to terms with it.
Customer Reviews
unbelievably predictable
Probably from the first chapter I had sussed the whole ridiculous plot although I kept thinking it surely couldn't be so obvious; but it was. Why main character didn't write to her husband or just blurt out what happened was also so stupid.
In its favour, it is a really quick read and I did keep reading because I wanted to be proved wrong that it wasn't as obvious as anticipated.
too obvious......
I have to say after reading all the reviews I was disappointed with this book. The characters were formulaic and had no real depth. The twists were obvious as was the ending. It's easy to read and get through but there are better books out there!
So predictable I felt insulted!
I bought Husbands and Lies after Amazon recommended it to me. It isn't the sort of book I would normally buy based on the blurb but the reviews were so good I thought I would give it a shot...BIG mistake! The lead character is such a wet blanket and so stupid it is frustrating. I wanted to climb into the book and slap her for being such an idiot! She barely even fights to save her marriage even though she seems to think her husband is God's gift. It's so obvious where the book is leading, and it is one of those stories where by if people spent 30 seconds to explain to each other what just happened like they would in real life then there would be no problem (and no book). I don't mean to patronise other reviewers but I just can't understand why is has had such good feedback, it's unrealistic, predictable and not even that well written. I would say don't waste your time but it's such a quick read that if it seems like the kind of story you normally like go for it as it is only a couple of hours wasted if you don't like it.
