Definatley Worth It
For anyone interested in baking of any sort, this book really is worth getting. 'The Crabapple Bakery Cupcake Cookbook' features recipies taken from the authors bakery. Although it is an Australian book, this really doesn't seem to make a difference and significant substitutes don't seem necessary.
Often, in books like this, I either buy it for the pictures and inspiration, or for the recipies- this is unique because it serves both purposes. And I would be as happy flicking through it with a cup of tea as I would be baking one of the recipies.
The Recipies themselves are pretty simple and no 'specialist' equipment is required to create a pretty lovely looking (and tasting-which is just as important!) cupcake.
Different fillings and frostings are in a chapter of their own at the back which is great idea for creating your own versions.
So- there you are- happy cupcaking!
very nice cupcake book
I like this book, it's Australian - yes Australians bake cupcakes too and have done for longer than they've been popular in the UK. See also Cupcakes and Fairy Cakes ("Australian Women's Weekly") It was nice when I was there but after this book was written they did go into administration, seem to be back though from what I can tell! Anyway, there's a section on basic techniques and designs, the obligatory cupcakes of course, lots of icings/frostings, and fillings, a section on layer cakes. Recommend the carrot cake and banana fudge cupcakes especially. The section on suppliers at the back only covers Australian suppliers.
An excellent little book especially for beginners
Just what I was looking for. As a cupcake beginner, I needed a no nonsence reference book to start me off. It is very simple to use and very colourful. It is from Australia and having been myself, I noticed that they do love their cakes and the shops are full of lovely sticky cakes and buns. I would recommend this for yourself or it would make a good present.
