Product Description

This witty collection of poems about school is full of typical classroom events that will be recognized and enjoyed by everyone: the candid revelations in a pupil's newsbook, the problem of copycats, bickering, making up, swaps, picking teams and forming gangs. Fritz Wegner's line drawings beautifully complement the hilarious and poignant verses. Please Mrs Butler was voted the most important twentieth-century children's poetry book in a Books for Keeps poll.

Customer Reviews

A must-have poetry book for any primary teacher5
As a teacher of 6 and 7 year olds I find this book is an essential item. The children really love the poems (and I do, too!)

Please Mrs Butler5
This is an essential read for every child. As a trainee teacher I use this book a lot with the children, and it always gets thumbs up from them. Not only do children adore this book but adults love it just as much!!!!

Perfect & Pleasing School-based Poetry5
This is a gently amusing and wittily accurate collection of poems set in a primary school. Contained within are poems that are destined to be classics such as 'Please Mrs Butler','Scissors','Supply Teacher','Reading Test' and 'Blame'.
The poems reflect all the varied aspects of the school day such as projects, tests, playtime, friendships, quarrels, dinner time and home time. The poems are popular with all ages in the primary sector and can lead to discussions in Circle Time as well as providing something that appears to be in shorter supply than when this book was first published over a quarter of a century ago - fun!
