Customer service
Got this as a replacement for an older type teasmaid. The light would only work whilst you kept your finger on the button. I spent over £20 on their helpline being asked to hold and never actually got through to anybody. I emailled them and after a long delay got a reply but not an answer. Eventually I took it back to the shop and got a replacement.
Its quite a nice teasmaid in that the alarm is less 'alarming' but then the light is not really bright enough to read by.
My main point is that you can expect NO customer service from Micromark.
Too many design flaws
I got one of these from the high street to replace a Swan D01 which died after 20 years. Big mistake. The design is full of flaws:
1. No flat top for a tray, so you need to find somewhere else for that.
2. The backlight for the LCD clock is too bright, and is always on.
3. The viewing angle for the LCD clock is too narrow. From my bed, I cannot see the time at all.
4. It boils the tea before the alarm goes off, instead of after, which I want.
5. To work round this I tried setting the alarm only, and then making an "instant" pot of tea. Unfortunately, it will not let you set the "instant" function until 2 minutes after the alarm has gone off.
6. The alarm also rings after making an "instant" pot of tea - which is plain wrong!
7. The filler cap for the kettle is awkward.
Do yourself a favour and get the Swan instead. I found out too late that it is still available on Amazon.
tea only
I have just unpacked this and already have problems with it. This is a tea maker with an unadjustable quiet alarm, the radio is completly seperate in operation from the alarm. You cannot have the radio come on with the alarm, you have to switch it on manualy. The other problem is that there is no back-up battery for the clock, if you have a power fail you loose the clock setting and therefore your alarm. In this age of electronic I cannot believe Micromark can sell an electric alarm clock with out battery back up. How it will work making tea I have yet to find out but so far I am not impressed.
