Not what i thought i was getting !!??
I brought this last week, 28/05/2007, it came a few days ago, the first observation when unpacking the laptop is that it lacks the "HP Imprint finish" and no "high gloss piano black" anywhere as described on HP UK website for this model??
There's only plain matt black and silver panels on the laptop, i was very disappointed (i thought very seriously about returning it).
Also the cover on the underside for the memory cards had not been fitted properly and was slightly bent, i got my screwdriver out and fixed that, but i don't know how well they put these things together these days!!
You get a battery, power adaptor with power cable, remote control and simple quick start guides.
But considering it is only £500 brand new and considing what you get for it i decided to keep it.
I've used it for a couple of days and everything works great, vista is quick, plenty of storage on the 120GB drive and screen is bright and sharp.
Just 1 more comment, to recover the OS and drivers all the information is on a separate partition on the hard drive, HP does not supply you with ANY disc's, so before you do anything get a couple of blank DVD+R discs and burn the recovery partition to them (HP have a little program installed to do this) because if your hard drive fails in the future you'll have disc's to recover your OS and drivers, You can only do this once, so keep the disc's somewhere safe.
So overall i think it's just about value for money, although i am a HP Pavilion fan, i presently own i ZD8000 and a DV1000, so i might be alittle biased.
Exactly what i wanted!!!
I was looking at different laptops for a while and also looked at a Dell which was the same price and had exactly the same specs ... i decided to go with the HP and do not regret at all, the original reviews worried me at frirst but was plesantly suprised, for a laptop the sounds is really good and clear, but if you want to have good sound, either plug is a good set of headphones or buy some really good speakers.
I also didn't mind the fact it was a matt finishs as they gloss ones i have had all ended up scuffed and damaged easily.
the only thing i was let down with was Vista, but no matter what laptop i got it would have vista on it unfortunatly, i have since chaged OS and love my laptop and do not regret this purchase.
I'm glad i went with my gut instict as what we all look for in a computer is not the same and some have more realistic veiws.
I run the laptop 24/7 and it has never let me down and the wifi connected straight from the box to our netgear router/firewall. set up file sharing no problem and runs a lot fast with a better OS on.
Terreble computer
The sound system is very bad.
It has been goes bad already twice.
First time I have send it and they repair in 15 days.
Second time it goes down in 2 days making very bad noises.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LAPTOP.
I am considering to sell it or to gift it to someone.
Thanks
Albert
