Product Description

Light moves through space in straight lines vibrating as waves in many different directions. Light which is polarized however only vibrates in one plane. A polarizing filter or polarizer is a lens filter which polarizes light along one plane. This can cut non-metallic reflections and enhance contrast under certain conditions.------Polarizing filters contain a layer of polarizing material which is laminated between two glass circles and mounted in a frame. You can then rotate this filter which affects the amount of light passing through. Even at their brightest setting however polarizing filters reduce the amount of light entering the lens - they always cost a stop or so of light.------Polarisers are useful for cutting reflections from water and glass (ie: non-metallic) surfaces. Theyre commonly used for cutting reflective glare off of windows or for taking a photo of a lake without a reflection on the lake surface for instance.------The Circular Polarizer also increases contrast and colour saturation. Recommended for TTL & AF cameras and Video camcorders.

Customer Reviews

Functional and solid with great results5
I'm not a professional photographer but own a Canon 400D SLR. I was very disappointed with my landscape shots until I bought this beauty.

As a hobbyist I wanted the lovely polarization of my outdoor shots but didn't want to break the bank to get it- this Hoya filter is perfect for that. Construction is sturdy, screws on easily, and adjusting it is smooth.

For this little cash if you own a DSLR and take outdoor shots you need this in your life!

Super colour saturation and reduced reflection5
Polarising filters are magical things. They can reduce reflections from non metallic surfaces with merely a twist of the ring!

Another use of polarising filters is to enhance colour saturation. Have you ever seen a photograph with the deepest blue sky you've ever seen and wondered how the photographer did it? Have you ever looked at your own pale blue, wishy washy skies and thought how on earth do I do this!?!? Look no further.

By turning the ring on a circular polariser you can adjust the amount of the effect it will create. They work best when the lens is pointed at 90 degrees to the sun, in other words the sun is on your left or right, not in front or behind. They are useful wherever you want deeper colour saturation too such as on foliage. A polariser can cut out the reflection of the white sky on glossy leaves and foliage for landscape shots.

Anyway, this Hoya polariser is well made and does all of the above. It's not the slimmest so you may need to look elsewhere for a special slim version if you're using on a super wide angle lens to avoid cropping image corners.

For everyone else this is a versatile and handy addition to your kit at a very good price.

Excellent for taking pictures with deep blue sky5
Great product. Really useful for getting fantastic deep blue sky images. Suitable for the Canon 450D standard kit lens.
