Quite Simple....it Works!!
Firstly, this backpack looks just like a regular backpack - it doesn't scream out 'camera bag.'
Camera gear stored inside is extremely well protected - the bag has tons of padding and, in fact, the backpack is quite rigid even when empty (it is the padding that does this). Mine holds a Nikon D80/lens with ease, even with the optional battery grip fitted. There are then 3 individual padded compartments, each of which being capable of holding a small/medium lens, or they could be amalgamated to hold a longer lens, etc. There are two further slimmer compartments, capable of holding flash etc.
There are 2-3 zipped compartments, plus a couple of small pockets for holding SD cards (or similar). In the top (non-camera) part of the backpack, it is possible to store your lunch and a drink - plus there are a couple more velcro pockets and organisers.
The backpack is very comfortable to wear and has heavily padded straps, plus a waist strap. There is a pocket on one of the straps for holding a small/medium mobile phone.
To be honest, it's hard to think of ways to improve this backpack!
good with a few flaws
This is a very good DSLR + laptop bag. very handy and convenient to use, instead of having to carry two separate bags for your laptop and DSLR. It feels and looks extremely sturdy and well made. The straps are padded, and almost every inch of this bag is Padded, and you can feel that immediately as it is not a light bag at all. The main DSLR compartment is located in the lower half of the bag, with side compartments, separate little compartments for memory cards, then there are other compartments on the top half. The main compartment above the camera one is quite spacious, only cause the lower one is quite solid, so it sort of creates a gab which makes the upper one. I have two issues with this bag, first: the laptop compartment is just not right. It is very narrow, and because the padding is really heavy (almost solid, like cardboard), I do not feel quite like putting my laptop in there, it just gives you the feeling that it is going to be crushed to pieces when you put it there and close the compartment. Though the padding is quite heavy, but it is not the kind of soft heavy padding, which would have been a lot better, this one just makes you feel it will actually break what's inside it, rather than protect it. Second issue, the camera place is very close to the edges, so in other words, if you put your camera there, and you knock your bag on a wall for instance, you can kiss it goodbye, even with the heavy padding. I think they did that to give the 'fast access' to your camera thing, but I rather spend a minute more to get my camera out, than having to worry about it when I am walking or something. Not to mention the camera space itself, does not fit right, the camera goes in the middle, and the lens goes in the longer space (inverted T shape), but there is still lots of space around the camera itself. so when you are moving for instance, or if you have the bag in a horizontal way, and just pick it, it will be in a vertical position, and your camera will 'drop', or move to the space around it. This is just not right, it is not a perfect fit, and all the excessive padding will just be useless if the camera is not actually protected by it, it is like it is left in its own space, and then about 5 cm away is the padding. This is not good. Maybe it will work with bigger cameras, but my EOS 450d just did not fit right. Would only recommend this bag if you have a big camera with long zoom or telephoto lenses, otherwise, look somewhere else. I did not think it is worth the money I spent on it at all.
Great sturdy bag - all I neen now is a laptop!
I don't have a lap top yet but when I get one, this bag will be the bees knees. I'm using it to carry two camera bodies with lenses plus assorted filters, hoods, batteries etc. It's very well made with lots of space for my equipment. The broad padded shoulder straps make it easy to carry without causing any discomfort. The fact I don't carry a laptop in it means I can use the top half for kneeling or sitting on when taking pictures and with my dodgy knees that's a godsend!
The one reason I didn't give it 5/5 was having seen "Fastpack" in the description I expected to be able to access my gear quicker, without having to take the bag fully off my shoulders. But then that's my own fault for not reading the description properly. Having used it for a while now, it doesn't cause me any grief to slip the bag off the shoulder to open it. I bought this to protect my camera gear and it does the job to perfection.Lowepro Fastpack 250 Backpack For SLR Kit, 15.4" Notebook & General Gear - Red
