Amazon.co.uk Review
Frasier picked up its second series with another round of comedy as intelligent as its pompous title character. Fortunately, the sniping between Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) and his father, Marty (John Mahoney), that took up a lot of the first series is mostly past, and the crack ensemble was ready to roll in a number of memorable episodes. Frasier tries to set up Daphne (Jane Leeves) with the new station manager in "The Matchmaker", Frasier, Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and Marty go fishing in "Breaking the Ice", Frasier and Niles jump into politics in "The Candidate", the team of Frasier and Roz (Peri Gilpin) breaks up ("Roz in the Doghouse") and Frasier and Niles open a restaurant in "The Innkeepers". It was Pierce's Niles who emerged as a star in the second series, lusting after Daphne, learning about parenthood in "Flour Child" and challenging a Bavarian fencer for the hand of his ever-absent wife, Maris, in the comic tour de force "An Affair to Forget". Pierce picked up a well-deserved first Emmy and the show repeated its first-series Emmys for comedy series and lead actor. Frasier's dates included Jobeth Williams (whom he takes on a disastrous getaway to Bora Bora), Shannon Tweed and Tea Leoni. Other guest stars were Nathan Lane and, from his original show, Cheers, Bebe Neuwirth and Ted Danson. --David Horiuchi
DVD Description
Emmy Award-winner Kelsey Grammer is Frasier, the hilarious psychiatrist first seen on TV's Cheers and subsequently the start of this smash-hit comedy series. Frasier is a half-hour comedy series set in Seattle, WA, which chronicles the lives of an eloquently pompous radio show host Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), his brazen radio producer Roz (Peri Gilpin), his competitive, high-brow brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce), their crotchety father Martin (John Mahoney) and Martin's semi-psychic, live-in home-care provider, Daphne (Jane Leeves).
The gang's all here for the complete second season of this wry and witty sitcom. Frasier Crane infuriates the entire city of Seattle when he complains about its rainy climate during his radio talk show. Meanwhile, his father Martin finds his favorite bar is slated for the wrecker's ball -and could it be that Frasier and Niles are behind its demise? Roz considers a new job offer...Daphne finds her privacy invaded...and Frasier's romantic island getaway with a new girlfriend is ruined when his ex-wife is discovered happily ensconced in an adjacent cottage!

have a laugh at bickering brothers, their dad and his dog
Many people say this is the best season of Frasier. This is probably true -there are 20 good episodes with the 4 poor ones coming at the end of the season.I wouldn't say that the funniest episodes ever of Frasier were in this box set but I would point anyone who hasn't seen frasier at series 2 because I don't doubt they'll like most of what's on display here.
If you don't like psychiatrists and educated, picky snobs, you might like their dad or Eddie the dog.Frasier is set in Seattle but you mainly get to see the radio studio and inside of Frasier's house which is a shame given how nice Seattle is supposed to look.
Probably the best series of 'Frasier'
Arguably the finest of all the 'Frasier' series, with the Crane brothers at their most pompous and puerile. All 24 episodes of the second series, and no dud.
Episoides include Frasier being fancied by a gay man, invading Daphne's privacy, and (as usual) blowing a hot date, with a writer. There's even Niles having a duel. This DVD includes extras such as commentary by director David Lee and writer Joe Keenan, and a little doc on the much missed Eddie.

It's just going to take me some time to climb down off this particular high horse
The second season of 'Frasier' is almost as good as its first outing, with the characters now established and the actors performing with increased conviction and confidence. Some of the episodes are simply inspired, with 'The Matchmaker' among the very best of 'Frasier': the plot revolving around Frasier's attempts to set Daphne up with his gay boss, who actually has a crush on Frasier himself! There's plenty more classic moments in episodes such as 'Seat Of Power' where Frasier and Niles hire their high school nemeses to fix a broken toilet and 'You Scratch My Book...' where Frasier falls for a gorgeous self-help writer but has to conceal from her his utter contempt of her insipid books. We also see the return of Bebe Glazer, a brilliant Harriet Sansom Harris playing a sharkish agent who has succeeded in luring Frasier into representation. The scenes where she exploits Frasier's ego are quite simply not to be missed!
There are far too many great lines in this show to list here but, needless to say, even the weaker episodes have sparkle and wit. As ever, the best moments tend to come from David Hyde Pierce as Niles and he is given more room to shine in Season 2. Episodes such as 'Flour Child' and 'An Affair To Forget' are made by his terrific performances. The other members of the cast are great too of course and old faces from 'Cheers' are welcome additions in the form of Sam and Lillith (always great value). If I have one slight criticism of this season, I would say that a couple of episodes miss the mark more frequently than in Season 1. 'The Club' is a touch irksome and not the best example of the one-upmanship games constantly employed by Frasier and Niles, while 'Duke's, We Hardly Knew Ye' is forgettable. But they still have their moments and, nonetheless, this season remains as potent as comedy gets.
