DVD Description
It's a little known fact that Robin Hood was a complete wimp who took all the credit for the grit in Maid Marian's guts. It was, in fact, she who assembled and fought oppression with a bunch of prats known as the Merry Men - a dwarf called Little Ron, a Rastafarian, an ugly dolt by the name of Rabies and a yuppie called Robin of Kensington. Doing incredibly brave things like piercing their ears and rescuing tadpoles, Marian and her men combat the cruelty of a mad, bad, king called John and his villanous Sheriff of Nottingham.

The next archer, from the village of Ambridge....
I've reached the ripe old age of 25 years old, but since discovering a minute ago that every episode of the brilliant Maid Marion and Her Merry Men is finally available on DVD, I'm as excited as a small child on Christmas Eve.
Having taped virtually every episode back in the day and watched them to the point of the tapes wearing out, I thought they would be lost forever, but thankfully whoever owned the rights has seen sense.
This may be a children's programme, but there is much in it to entertain adults. Tony Robinson's humour, as has been mentioned elsewhere, has more than a hint of Blackadder about it (you'll find yourself laughing out loud frequently); the numerous songs are hilarious; and the cast are excellent to a person, throughout.
You owe it to yourself to buy all 4 series of this excellent show right now - I just have :)
The best TV programme EVER!!!
I now rejoice the day that maid marian is now available on DVD! My dreams have come true! This is the funniest programme ever, yet it seems to be tragically underated as alot of people don't seem to have ever heard of it. But now every episode is available on DVD, I think i may just miss all my lectures and stay in watching episodes back to back. If you have never seen this before, I guarantee that it will become more loved than even the simpsons. It appeals to children, adults, babies, old people, everyone. Buy it. This is the start of a new era!!!!! Long live maid marian and her merry men!!!!!!!! Oh dear im far too excited.....
Just for kids?..I think not!
When Maid marian and her merry men first hit our screens in 1989 i was but a mere whippersnapper of 16 years old.My guilty secret at the time(well one of them...i was a teenage boy after all!!) was getting in from school and sitting down to watch this classic series.I admit that my admiration was not just for the fantastic writing and superb performances(both remind me of Blackadder)but also for the beautiful Marian(Kate lonergan). It has to be said that she was quite the fantasy object and pin up in mine and most of my friends minds and bedrooms!(Is that wrong?)Anyway...time moved on and we grew up,physically if not mentally, and the series became a distant fond memory due to its unavailability on VHS.Myself, well i had videotaped a few episodes 'back in the day' but sadly prolonged use of the pause button in scenes that Marian featured in(i dont want to explain that one...okay I was a teenage boy, remember!)had sadly killed my recordings.
Now its back and just as funny as i knew it was at the time.I had worried that the premise,Marian being the liberated woman and Robin being the archetypal 'Yuppie',would seem stodgy and /or dated but as with all classic comedy it has stood the test of time. The entire cast was a work of genius. Each character being played to perfection by each actor.
I played it for my kids(9yrs and 12yrs)and i am proud and happy to report that they are now huge fans of the series. If you loved it before buy it and enjoy it again. If you didnt really 'get it' before then buy it and watch it with your kids...they will more than likely love it!
But at the end of the day.........this is my copy and my kids can have it when they pull it from my cold, dead hands!!!!.....
..Is that wrong of me?
