Rather disingenuous DVD 'extras'
First off, this is probably the greatest TV show of all time....Hilariously funny, original and endlessly rewatchable....It's still being ripped off, 10 years later, by all manner of inferior talents.
But what's with the claim on the back of the box that it contains "Special features: deleted scenes, outtakes & cast interviews"....hey guess what? there's 21 episodes here, and 20 of them are 'bare bones', no extras, absolutely nothing. The last episode has extras, but the rest have nothing. So how contemptuous of the punter can you get? Let's put the promise on the back of the box, leave it nice and vague....Any casual punter will naturally assume that these additionals scenes, outtakes and interviews relate to the whole series....they don't! they could have just stated that there's extras for the final show, but that would require honesty and respect for the person buying the DVD and we can't have that....can we? The extras relate to the final show, only; a show far inferior to the original 3 series.
Why Aherne and Cash don't give any interview footage is anybody's guess...Instead, we get the rest of the cast telling us how delighted they were to receive the news that a new show was on the way....Obviously the writers were too far up their own, to make any comment.
Anyway, this is a fabulous show, and should be endless stars...the DVD presentation leaves a somewhat sour taste though...
shes got some lovely wrap-around skirts has Judith Chalmers.....
I was an avid viewer of Series 1 & 2 but sort of let season 3 pass me by.
Its only when I watched the Queen of Sheba that I remembered what a cracking classic show this really was and wasted no time in ordering the complete DVD collection-money well spent in my opinion.
Why?
Well for starters apart from the main cast,Jim,Barbra & co being their usual excellent selves I had forgotten how funny the likes of Cheryl,Twiggy,Mary & Jo are not forgetting Darren and the wonderful Nanna.
Its a joy to watch them from the beginning[series 1] right through to the end[Queen of Sheba],not forgetting to mention that Jim has the same stripy top on in nearly every episode[apart from the "do's"].
I doubt there isn't anybody reading this who hasn't seen at least one episode from any of the series 1-3 so I don't need to go on about each individual charactor, but really,if you were put off watching, for whatever reason, then give it another chance as once you start watching episodes back to back you will, like myself, realise what you were missing!
A Window to Society Or a Great Comedy?
I love this television show but sometimes I watch it and think "my god people really are like this and live like this". Other times, more often than not, I watch it and think "what a great piece of writing and acting". To think of it as a window to society only complements the programmes writers and actors, which is what I certainly do.
I don`t think I`m a snob but in real life this is a trap I would not like to fall into.
Great series that has a beginning, a middle and end. The last show breaks your heart but be prepared to have your heart broken again when you watch the deleted scenes.
