Fantastic Box Set - Extras Galore
If you like The Saint or Roger Moore for that matter then you will love this Special Edition box set of the Colour Episodes. Limited to only 4000 copies it contains some great extras in its 12 discs, including: The Story of the ST1 (Volvo P1800), The Girls of the Saint, Audio Commentary for `Escape Route', Original ITC Trailer, The Making of the Saint, Picture Gallery for every Episode including many behind the scenes. It also has SDH Subtitles.
The other major extras come in the none digital variety ie. 2 x full colour full size 16 page booklets, 1) Viewing notes 2) A Guide to the Collection, both are fantastic glossy insights into the making of the colour saint. Also included are Reproduction theatrical posters of the movies `The Fiction Makers" & "Vendetta for the Saint", 4 x Art cards featuring The Saint press book covers and a Reproduction of original Roger Moore publicity postcard.
All this and much more means this really is the best set around. As it is limited to only 4000 expect this is a rather rare item in years to come.
The Saint box set to own
Undoubtedly this is one of the best quality DVD boxsets around. Quite apart from the content - all the colour episodes of The Saint ever made - the packaging, layout and extras make this the one Saint boxset to get your hands on. Lavishly illustrated viewing notes and episode guides, publicity postcards and posters - they really have gone to town.
And then of course - the episodes themselves. The Saint really was Roger Moore's finest hour. Polished, stylish entertainment, Moore is the definitive interpretation of Leslie Charteris' gentleman adventurer. Inevitably, storylines become dafter as the series ran out of ideas - and the influence of sixties spy dramas and gadets becomes apparent in the later episodes, which detracts a little from the character of Simon Templar. But these are small niggles. For anyone who remembers enjoying The Saint - here's a fantastic opportunity to re-visit the harmless, escapist series that epitomises the sixties.
Fantastic sound an picture quality too - the production values for this limited edition boxset could not be better.
