Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Rio: for the most part, Rio is an eerie and sumptuous record. With their raspy, arpeggio synth sounds and Simon Le Bon's uninflected vocals, the misty ballads "Lonely in Your Nightmare" and "Save a Prayer" can still pull heavily on your heartstrings. With the dance-orientated singles "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf", you lighten up a bit, but the songs are far from airy or whimsical. One anomaly in this release, though, is the inappropriate prominence of John Taylor's bass lines. In every song, it sounds as if he is mixed more in expectation of a solo than as an integral part of the rhythm section. Ignore this technical distraction, however, and you'll enjoy rediscovering this gorgeous body of water-coloured synth pop. --Beth Bessmer
Seven & the Ragged Tiger: this is artier than Duran Duran's first two releases. "The Reflex" opens with one of the best bass-fuelled intros ever, remaining more in the dance-pop arena than the rest of the album. Lyrically, the song contains one of the most memorable Duran Duran lines of all time, "Fl-Fl-Fl-Fl-Flex", which is reason enough to buy the whole stable. "Union of the Snake" is a mix of male ritual, slithering synths and big bad beats. Along with their first two albums, Seven & the Ragged Tiger is necessary to effectively complete the early Duran Duran experience. Interesting haircuts remain optional. --Steve Gdula
Album Description
Duran Duran's eponymous debut album contained pumping synths, glossy production and ultra-smart singles like `Girls on Film' and `Planet Earth' which both became instant smash hits both in the U.K. and America. Far more experimental and revealing from the primary writer Nick Rhodes are the atmospheric mood-pieces like `Night Boat', `Sound of Thunder', and the instrumental `Tel Aviv', all of which are reminiscent of mid-era Roxy Music.
Duran Duran's double-platinum selling, `Rio' was their 2nd foray into the album pop charts in 1982. It produced three top ten hits, `Hungry Like The Wolf', `Rio' and `Save A Prayer'. This CD is enhanced with the videos to these three hit singles, and it is these videos which helped to establish Duran Duran's image and made them an MTV favourite.Enhanced section also includes a complete discography, photo gallery & lyrics.
With their 3rd album Seven and the Ragged Tiger Duran Duran enjoyed 3 top 10 singles `New Moon on Monday', `Union of the Snake', and `The Reflex' which hit the no. 1 spot in the UK.`Seven and the Ragged Tiger' saw the band moving ever closer into a danceclub arena, with the songs leaning more toward their ability to produce a sexier sound through electronics and instrumentation - a more synth-snazzy and fashionable style of music, bright, energetic, and effectual. Duran Duran's new direction eventually gave `Seven and the Ragged Tiger' double platinum status in the UK.

A Brilliant Collection !
These 3 CDs have been released for over 20 years but they sound like songs from yesterday.
From "Girls On Film" to "The Reflex", the songs are loaded with energy and vitality.
The mini sleeve box set is very neat, similar to that of the Singles 81-85 Box Set released earlier in late 2003.
In summary, a very nice addition to my Duran Duran collections.
Not really Mini Sleeves
As the other reviewers have said, the music is great and it's great that the first album has it's original track listing restored, but are these REALLY Mini Sleeves?
Yes, they are made of cardboard, bjut they are not reproductions of the original album packaging, as Mini Sleeved LP's are. Each album is housed in a gatefold cardboard sleeve which is open each end, one end to hold the CD, the other for the booklet. Only Rio has an inner sleeve for the CD. The booklets are very well done, containing all the lyrics.
If you are a collector of Mini Sleeved CD's, this collection is not for you. But if you want good packaging surrounding pure Eighties pop and, in one case, videos, buy away!!!
Again!
EMI squeeze a few more pennies out of their former employees, yes no doubt cashing in on the comeback they weren't interested in!
At least the track listing for the first album is as per the original, unlike when it was first released on CD.
Great music, of course, and a must buy if you don't already have these albums.
