Long-awaited information - too long.
The diagnosis of epilepsy is shocking enough, for social reasons, one soon finds out, as much as medical. At least as bad is the paucity of information available - and above all on the commonest form of the condition, temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). I have waited forty years for Mrs La Plant's book, to find out that I'm not really so very strange after all. My experiences are commonplace in TLE. Why didn't I know before? Simple - the information wasn't to be had. Why not? The author makes no pretensions to medical qualifications, but has taken care to consult medical figures of distinction, so that her work is to be trusted. A minor criticism is her perhaps undue readiness to read back into very historical persons (or perhaps semi-mythic figures, such as Moses)symptoms of TLE. She may well be right, but except for recent history (e.g. "Lewis Carroll") it would be wise to exercise just a little more care. This is a minor point. If you are getting over the shock of diagnosis - or have a member of family in that state - or have had the condition for many years, don't waste time in getting hold of this book. You'll find it great value. I certainly did, after too many years, and likewise my family.
excellent book for people with T.L.E
An excellent book for those who wish to learn more about Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. The book is not heavy on doctors terms or anything like that, so there's no need to be put off by that. It uses real life cases to explain everything, and keep the reader interested and informed at the same time.
Well written for this kind of book.
Was going to return it, but...
...I love books and, the thought of a brand new book remaining in my posession unopened was making me dizzy! I am 60% confirmed to have TLE (scan + EEG next week). Basically, I wanted to know what this is, what I can do to be 'normal' again & not have my car taken away. I've read almost half of 'Seized' and felt strangely comforted that I was in good company. It sounds bizaare, but I wont be returning this book after all - I suppose you can say, I've been 'seized'.
