Another great book from Tamora Pierce
I've been reading Tamora Pierce's books since my teens (I'm almost 30 now) and, if anything, she writes better books now than she did when I first got hooked. She puts a huge amount of thought into her characters: what they want, what they are capable of, how they would react in a situation. This really pays off, because while there are plenty of surprises in her books, she remains true to her characters - no odd behaviour to help the plot along, as with some authors! Bloodhound is a fantastic second book in the Beka Cooper series. I read in an interview that Tamora had had trouble making sure she got the details right for the money forging aspect of the book, but that doesn't come through at all, and, as usual her research is well done, and woven into the plot. I had a slight panic as I neared the end of the book, because I'd forgotten this was a three book series (I thought it might be a two book series, like the terrific Trickster set) but phew, Mastiff is due in 2010!

Bloodhound - T Pierce
Bloodhound is a well written account - the language used aids in the construction of the atmosphere. The author has maintained a fast pace throughout. It is easy to identify with the main character.
I can't wait to order and read the next instalment...

Better, but not the best
It's a great book, and a much easier style to read than 'Terrier' and I actually enjoyed the pace of the story much more, but sad to say, it's still not a patch on her earlier series... We need a return to 'Lioness' world!!!
