Product Description

On 1st December 1996, 25-year-old Lee Harvey was stabbed 42 times in a frenzied knife attack. His girlfriend, Tracie Andrews, claimed he had been murdered in a road rage attack and, days later, appeared at a press conference making an emotional appeal for witnesses to the crime. During the days following the attack, the horrific truth about what really happened that night became apparent; it was Tracie who had killed Lee and then tried to cover her tracks with a web of lies...Lee was a good-looking, happy young man with a bright future ahead of him. Tracie Andrews appeared to be an attractive, lively blonde and, at first, their relationship seemed to be a happy one. But soon, Tracie's true nature began to reveal itself and she became jealous, possessive and even violent. Soon enough, the relationship became volatile and self-destructive.On that cold winter's night in 1996, Maureen Harvey heard the devastating news that every parent prays they will never have to hear - her child was dead. As events unfolded and the reality of what Tracie had done took hold, Maureen was forced to come to terms with the fact that the woman with whom she initially shared her grief was in fact the perpetrator of this horrific crime. Tragic and heart-wrenching, this gripping account of a mother's tragic loss cannot fail to touch the emotions of any reader.

About the Author
Maureen Harvey lives in Kings Norton, Birmingham with her husband Ray. They have a daughter, Michelle, and three grandchildren Danielle, Paige, and Jordan. Since their son Lee was murdered by Tracie Andrews in December 1996, they have campaigned tirelessly to ensure that those convicted of murder serve their full prison tariff. Maureen's book is based on the diary she began writing after Lee's death and is a frank account of the emotional journey she and her family have taken during the last decade. It is a unique testimony which she hopes will serve not only as a tribute to Lee but as an inspiration to bereaved parents everywhere.

Customer Reviews

A heartbreaking story 3
I was worried about writing a review for this book as i didnt want to appear insenstive, however i dont think Maureen comes across very well in the book. Yes she has lost her son and that is completely devestating but i believe the story to contain many inacurracies, that even a reader who knows nothing but the media version can see.

In the beginning of the book, she actually turns on the well wishers and supporters, people who genuinely wanted to help and give her a listening ear instead she vilifies these well wishes and is almost to a point vindictive about them.

The book is not that well written but the story is as others have said "unputdownable" it just irks me that she has used the book to have a pop at people she doesnt like, i appreciate the book would be biased but some of the things in there seem so far fetched.

Biased & Bitter2
Yes, I feel sorry for anyone who loses a child, no matter how it happens. And I feel sorry for Maureen Harvey. But this book is so biased and full of little inaccuracies it is annoying ('Tracie held my hand at the press conference and I couldn't believe it' - NO - you took her hand Maureen) There are lots more of this sort of thing scattered though out the book and it becomes spot the 'dig' (at Tracie) or lie about events. Lee was not the angel she tries to portray here, he and Tracie were both as bad as each other. Even the title of this book is OTT. I believe that Christine Challand probably wrote most of this with very little input from Maureen and tried to turn it into some sort of crime novel based on a few facts. I gave 2 stars for interestingness - get it from the library instead.

It's a just can't put it down book!5
Pure Evil arrived in the post from Amazon.co.uk yesterday at 9am, 6 hours later and I had finished the book, I just couldn't put it down. I can remember following all the news and press coverage at the time and I also thought from the start that Tracie Andrews was guilty of murdering Lee Harvey. This book is testament to how strong a family have to be when tragedy strikes, it follows the many lows and some highs the family had to deal with and tells where they are all at in their lives now. I lost my sister in similar circumstances, if ever anyone needed it, Pure Evil confirms what everyone on the outside looking in already knows, anyone in a destructive relationship should leave right now and NEVER go back, easier said than done but this book, unfortunately through the tragedy that ended in the brutal murder of Lee Harvey should give strength to anyone who needs to say enough is enough and move on with their life.
It proves that liars will always be caught and justice albeit British justice, (which is never enough when we're talking about murder!) will prevail!
