Product Description

A must-read for all Sunday League players and their long-suffering wives and girlfriends. Happy Days & Sundays captures perfectly the banter and humour of pub football.

It's Sunday morning. You're hungover and it's raining cats and dogs outside. Kick off's in fifteen minutes and it's a ten minute drive to the ground. Your girlfriend snuggles up close to you. It's a no contest ... you can't let your mates down.

In a tale of loyalty, friendship and - let's be honest - drunken shenanigans, pub football team Stockgrove FC play out the most extraordinary season in ther history. Their quest for silverware sees them travelling from Buckingham to Bangkok.

What makes grown men tumble out of bed on a cold winter morning to go and kick lumps out of each other? Happy Days & Sundays is the perfect antidote to the overpaid prima donnas of the Premiership. This is football in the raw.

'ave it...

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
A very competent debut performance by the boy Cavanagh. The former stand-up comedian delivers a number of beautiful one-liners in this well-crafted, funny and affectionate look at the world of pub football.

From the Author
It seems everybody wants to write about football. Books about football violence by former hooligans and ghost-written autobiographies about Premiership players with more money than sense are two-a-penny. I wanted to write something that would appeal to a larger audience. A book about grassroots football; the banter, the humour, the mickey-taking and the larger-than-life characters that every amateur team has.

The story and the characters are fictitious, but if you have been inolved in Sunday League football you'll recognize them - the flash git, the practical joker, the one who's always last to the bar - they're all in there. As such, the dialogue in the book is distinctly adult, so don't buy this book if you're easily offended!

Happy Days and Sundays is a story about friendship and loyalty and I hope that women reading it as much as the blokes.

Will bring back memories - give it a go 4
If the Carlsberg "Probably the best Sunday Team" advert brought back the smell of deep-heat in your nostrils, then this debut novel is a must-buy. Fast paced and witty, Cavanagh manages to weave a story which mixes the culture of English Sunday morning football with the spices and beautiful scenery of Thailand. There are tips for Sunday morning footballers (watch what your mates put in your kit-bag and check your shower-gel), as well as for those travelling to Bangkok (what to see, how to barter etc). But the highlights are the author's own anecdotes which regularly pop-up throughout the story. Some of the puns will make you groan, but many of the stories will be ones you recognise from your own experiences. It's not all laughs - Cavanagh ends his story with a sensitive and delicate exposition of the juxtaposition of birth and death and the end and beginning of relationships. GIVE IT A GO. IT'S WELL WORTH £7.99 OF ANYONE'S BRITISH POUNDS.

A Funny Old Game5
Thankyou Roy Cavanagh! Finally a book that provides a refreshing antidote to all the samey 'chick lit' weighing down our bookshelves! This book is the perfect World Cup companion for all of us who need to understand or remind ourselves of the passion men have for that 'funny old game'. Who knows that insight could even save your relationship over the next few rollercoaster weeks and the subsequent football season. This book delivers it all, humour, friendships, relationships and travel to the Orient (that's Thailand not Leyton!!) A must have accessory on the beach which might help boost your credibility with the man in your life, read and enjoy!
