Product Description

With enough heart-pumping activities, from abseiling to paragliding, as well as more relaxed outings to beaches, vineyards and museums, Cape Town easily fills an extended visit. But many, if not most, visitors venture much further east, out along the Garden Route, whose enticements include some of the best land-based whale-watching in the world, crashing seascapes, dappled forests and, at its culmination, lions and elephants in the best game reserve in the southern half of the country. The Rough Guide to Cape Town and the Garden Route is the definitive guide to Cape Town, its stunning environs (including Table Mountain, Cape Point, the Winelands and the Whale Coast) and the Garden Route all the way to Port Elizabeth and the Addo Elephant National Park.

Fantastic book5
Without a doubt this was THE most helpful book in planning a journey in Cape Town and the Garden Route. We were constantly referring to the directions given in the book, the approx prices/ opening hours of any attractions we were visiting.

There are also good descriptions of places to visit giving informed views often within the historical context.

An invaluable guide if travelling the garden route5
My girlfriend and I spent 2 weeks in South Africa and hired a car, travelling over 1000 KM on our journey. It was absolutely amazing. This book was our bible in planning our days. Please do not be put off by the "rough guide" tag, this is misleading as this guide would be invaluable to all travelers, it is certainly not just a backpackers book. Very informative, bang up to date, it gives you everything from things to do/places of interest/local history to costs and directions as well as the usual accommodation/restaurants. It was like having our own tour guide. Locals and guesthouse owners on our journey would tell us that you must do this or that, but most things we already knew about from the rough guide. We went great white shark diving, went on fantastic coastal scenery walks and in a moment of madness, I did the highest bungy jump in the world.. A must have and highly reccommended resource for anyone doing a flydrive to this wonderful part of a fabulous country. If you have never been before, you're gonna love every minute of it!
