Customer Reviews

one of the best series ever5
The 2007 series of Waking The Dead is one of the best ever done. The crime stories are really good and attention graping from minute one. I like that the over agressiveness of Boyd is reduced and more humour is re-introduced. The new cast is great and adds new dimensions to the team. The old cast is perfect as ever. In short: 5 stars

Great ... Ready for Series 75

Love this show. Only get the first 3 seasons in the States and since my DVD player is Region Free (with a little help) I've ordered all the other series from Amazon UK. Absolutely fabulous production that leaves the US spin-offs in a trash heap behind.

Counting the days until Series 7 is released.

Farewell, Boyd, you will be missed2
Please, don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting, that Boyd is dead, far from that. But Waking the Dead is dead, or dying at the very least. Usually I do not like writing negative reviews, with some exceptions, it's just I could hardly believe my own eyes reading the other reviews. So this is a different opinion for a change.

I loved Waking the Dead, I really did. I still miss Mel, I miss Frankie even more. But that is not the problem. All those "ritual killings", well, that's a question of taste, I think, personally, I never like them, as they are usually robbed of any human motivation. But even that is not the point. Trouble is, that when I start to watch a detective series, I expect some interesting case with some really interesting investigation, with one find leading to some ideas, etc. Here we get more and more of Hollywood-type blockbuster wannabe, which I hate. But then, there are plenty of people who think that even Bones season 2 is good, though it has reduced to half stupid comedy half nonsense with no forensics at all. Anyway, I would have given Waking the Dead series 6 three stars, it still has it's moments, if not for that horror somewhere at the middle. I swear, all of you have seen something like this in a zillion films. A HYPER cliche situation: No1 is an intended victim at gunpoint, No2 is the one who holds the gun (hand shaking, tears streaming, oh, the actor's profession is really tragic sometimes, it seems) and No3 trying to talk No2 out of it. A variation: only No1 and No2 available, both with guns, talking, ant the conversation is never less silly than the previous one. OH. I almost wanted to hide under the table of embarrassment.

So: some adventures, some running and screaming, some gore, lukewarm or even dull cases, almost no investigating, almost no forensics. Everything else depends on what you like (or don't like).

Sorry, but that's my verdict: Waking the Dead is dead with no chance of resurrection. Rest in peace.
