Product Description

This book describes 25 circular walks which reflect the splendid diversity of the Derbyshire countryside. There are routes across heather-covered moors in the north and rich, rolling agricultural land in the south. At other times Bill Parke leads us beside sparkling rivers and through picturesque stone villages. In all cases he has taken care to ensure that the different needs of individual family members are considered. All of the routes are less than 6 miles long, with 'Escape Routes' which allow the very young or less energetic to shorten the walk. There are comprehensive instructions and an absorbing commentary which should occupy the most enquiring young mind. Many routes include a highlight which will be of particular interest to children - among others, there's a racing car collection, an otter and owl sanctuary, the National Tramway Museum, theme parks and working mills, farms and mines.

Customer Reviews

making walking with children fun4
I was introduced to this book at Easter by a friend who was walking with her 7-year old daughter. We had great fun. The lists of things to look for with each walk kept all 3 adults entertained as well as the intended recipient. The instructions in the book are clear enough to follow without using a map although I would recommend introducing children to map reading as a matter of course. It makes the walk much more interesting. No play parks were evident on the walks we did, but the idea of the book is to get children to enjoy the great outdoors and quality time with the parents, not have yet more entertainment provided for them.

I shall be buying a copy to give me ideas of short lowland walks to take my new puppy on.

Great walks for children 3.5 years upwards + adults!5
Contains interesting and very attractive walks. Some are 2 miles long though some are more. Very few books cater for children (shorter distances)and this is first class.

It does not compromise walks for adults, didn't come across any childrens play grounds!

Walks with Children3
I have twins with disabilities but this book has encouraged us as a family to undertake walks listed in the book.

However as children appreciate colour and photographic evidence, I feel the book would benifit from some additional colour photos and more detailed maps for the adults.

The checklist is an excellent idea and could be improved on using images which younger children and children with learning disabilities would easily identify and use.
