If you're interested in magic because on your ninth birthday Mummy and Daddy booked the ruddy faced Uncle Fiddlesticks who made sweets appear from pockets he'd forced you to verify were empty, and you now want to know how it was done, then this isn't the book for you. "Tricks To Freak Out Your Friends" doesn't contain trivial and forgettable tricks. The material in this book is 'grab you by the balls and twist 'em' stuff. It's sick and it's rude, and it'll blow their minds. If someone bent a spoon under your nose, had it melt in your hand and then floated six inches off the ground you'd take notice, wouldn't you? If they'd followed that up by resurrecting a dead fly, swallowing a knife and making a message mysteriously appear on their forearm you'd be right to be well impressed, and it's all in "Tricks To Freak Out Your Friends", and more. This natty full-colour magic-manual takes you through each trick in detail, and colour photos demonstrate just how to perform them. It's guaranteed to make your friends choke on their pints.

'the bastard son of Paul Daniels and Jackass'
Boys Toys, April 07
Your audience will be left so gob smacked they'll think you've sold your
soul to Lucifer himself. Brilliant.
About the Author
Pete Firman is a uniquely gifted magic entertainer, gleefully injecting the genre with his anarchic, offbeat humour and dazzling array of skills. He was born in Middlesbrough, birthplace of another magic guy Paul Daniels. Pete was always interested in magic, fascinated by the ability to impress people that were bigger than him. After winning the Acklam Grange School Talent Show twice ("Yes!") Pete went to University in Scarborough where he gained a BA in Theatre. He had always gigged in pubs and bars as a magician. Hopelessly single and skint he worked part time for his Dad. "I used to sell cars, that’s where I fine tuned my banter!" Pete’s gift of the gab has stood him in good stead in the magic trade.
In 2002 he made Monkey Magic for FIVE. It was a new form of magic show, fronted by 4 magicians. It was short listed for a British Comedy Award and nominated for the Golden Rose of Montreux. FIVE quickly commissioned Pete and the other guys to make The Greatest Magic Tricks In The Universe…….Ever, one of FIVE’s highest rating shows. The second series of Monkey Magic aired in 2004 to critical acclaim.
In 2004 Pete and Ali Cook travelled the world and met his magic heroes. The Secret World of Magic aired in May 2005 on Sky One. Pete’s most recent project was Dirty Tricks, a studio magic show, with celebrity guests (from Stephen Fry to Mylene Klass), swearing and blood. It was nominated for the variety award at The Rose d'Or Festival.

good classics but some preperation needed
The book its self is well written with fairly good diagrams. It makes easy reading and each trick is easy to follow and pick up BUT....most of the tricks need a certain amount of preperation. Not a lot, but such items as a frozen fly, a sculpted carrot or a pre bended spoon are required. The tricks in this book are classics and may entertain your friends , however, i was looking for simple coin tricks, mind tricks and things that didnt need any preperation before hand so that they could be done at a moments notice.
Great Magic Book!
As an amateur magician for many years I'm always intrested in new books on magic for the public. This one is excellent. Pete has brought the beginners magic book up to date with modern tricks that appeal to todays audiences. Its not all card tricks, i rounded up stuff from around the house and at the pub and impressed my pals.
My teenage kids love this book too and have already fooled their mother with a couple of the tricks.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in magic or people who like shocking their mates.
Awesome, just awesome.
This is a great book for anybody who is interested in learning some great tricks. I've got a few beginners magic books and this one is the best as it contains tricks that will make you look like a pro. It is written in a style that is both clear and humourous.
If you like magic and practical jokes then this book is definately worth a look.
