Synopsis
Rose and the Doctor return to present-day Earth, and become intrigued by the latest craze the video game, Death to Mantodeans. Is it as harmless as it seems? And why are so many local people going on holiday and never returning? Meanwhile, on another world, an alien war is raging. The Quevvils need to find a new means of attacking the ruthless Mantodeans. Searching the galaxy for cunning, warlike but gullible allies, they find the ideal soldiers on Earth. Will Rose be able to save her family and friends from the alien threat? And can the Doctor play the game to the end and win? Featuring the Doctor and Rose as played by Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper in the hit series from BBC Television

deadly games3
A doctor who novel featuring the ninth doctor and his companion rose. Two hundred and fifty pages [approx] long, the time travellers pop back to rose's home to visit her mother, and find that a company are giving out free video games all over the area. But there's more to these games than meets the eye, and those who are good at them end up in the clutches of aliens who need their services. can the doctor save the day and free these people?

One of the very first novels in this range, and written at a time before much of the ninth doctor had been seen on screen. reading it two years later I can see now that the writer does a very good job of characterising him and all the regular cast members who show up. And the setting of a typical london neighbourhood is well drawn, along with one very good supporting character, an insecure teenage boy who is molly coddled by his mother.

However the plot of this one does feel rather slight, and frankly a bit overstretched at times. It's a decent enough read, but it's nothing special, and there are stronger novels in the range

"Fantastic" (as the Doctor might say). Jaqueline Rayner is a genius.5
I mean it. Shes brilliant. She is the ONLY (only!) writer of Doctor Who books that I think has properly captured the spirits of the Doctor and Rose. All of her books have a great storyline and her books are the only Dr Who ones that I have managed to read to the end. I literally couldnt put it down. The Stone Rose was exactly the same, even if the Doctor was different she brought his soul onto paper brilliantly. I can't wait till I get the Last Dodo!!!!!

well, my first real let down in the world of who.1
I have all the fifteen ninth and tenth doctor books, and im reading them in order. The clockwise man was a little slow to start with but definitely got better towards the end, the monsters inside was very good, apart from if you read closely the plant that gets crushed at the start of the story is alright and un trod on at the end!! ha ha. but so far Winner Takes All has to be the m,ost boring and dull story ive read to do with doctor who.

i enjoy buying dw magazine, and especially i like to read the time team sections to hear what the four gals and guys think of stories from the original series, and Jac Rayner seems to be the most dissing to me. But this book written by her is just blaaah! i just kept on reading to see if the story would get any better but it didnt. a real weak story!!!!!!!! The quevvils are just totally stupid monsters, .....

hopefully the stone rose and the last dodo will be better!
