Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
A disc that features three more superb episodes from David Tennant's first series in the TARDIS, this DVD finds Doctor Who facing one of his deadliest opponents--the Cybermen.
The lethal foes are brought back to life in the first two episodes on this disc, Rise Of The Cybermen and The Age Of Steel. They find the Doctor, Rose and Mickey in an alternative version of Earth, where zeppelins dominate the London skyline and Roger Lloyd Pack's maniac genius is hard at work on an enhanced version of humankind. Ruthlessly harvesting humans, his work is soon revealed as the all-new Cybermen, who are as fatal as ever. And while the two-part story may cut the odd corner here and there, it's nonetheless a triumphant return in an action-packed, tightly scripted story.
However, the real treat on the disc is the lower profile episode, The Idiot's Lantern. Set at the time of Elizabeth II's coronation, the Doctor and Rose find a shop offering strangely low cost television sets, and people worried by rumours of strange goings in. Buoyed by a guest appearance by Maureen Lipman, this is yet another highpoint for an increasingly confident series, by turns clever, sinister and intriguing.
In short, the best disc yet of episodes from the second new series of Doctor Who. And there's the promise of even better around the corner...--Simon Brew

Puerile!
The Idiot's Lantern is by far the worst Dr Who episode ever made. If I wanted to watch a house full of squabbling, cliched & over-sterotyped characters I would watch an episode of Neighbours. But I'm being too harsh on Neighbours - even at its worst, the characters in Neighbours have more depth and are more believable than those that bicker their way through The Idiot's Lantern. I suppose this was supposed to be some kind of social commentary - but setting up a strawmen like Eddie, just to kick him down, is a puerile way to make a point. This episode is a disgrace to the Dr Who series :( The Rise of the Cybermen and the Age of Steel are worth a watch if you like the Cybermen.
The Return Of The Cybermen!
This disc contains two of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever! "Rise Of The Cybermen"+"The Age Of Steel" is a great story with new Cybermen and a cracking theme tune. As for "The Idiot's Lantern", still good, but a bit crappy at the same time.
The Cybermen are back!
"Ive seen them befor... Cybermen..."
Episode 6: Rise of The Cybermen- When i first saw the new disiens of the cybermen, i wasent sure if they were going to work (tho i prefered them then the 80's type cybermen). I am glad to say i was wrong and there one of the best desigs yet! (tho my favert disigens are still the Patrick Troughton versions) The Doctor, Rose and Miky end up in a parrel vison of earth in wich Rose's dad is alive, Zepplins fly all around london, people get dowenlod's strat in to there brains and an old enamy is reborn thxs to Jhon Lumic (a brilletnt Roger Lloyde Pack). This is a grate episode, with one of the best clifhagers.
Episode 7: The Age of steel- The second part which continus from "The Rise of The Cybermen" The cybermen are takeing over London and "upgradeing" everyone, and the doctor trys to find a way to stop them. This is on of the best New serise episodes, its fast and exsiting and the new cybermen are just grate marching around london ^^
Episode 8: The Idiots Lantern- The Doctor and Rose land in 1953 london, just in time for the Queens corination. But strange things are happen to the street they land in and the only conetion is that everone has a TV... This is a grate looking episode with some brillient sets, costumes, acting and it the "wire" is brillent :)
Again another birllent bunch of episods ^^
