Customer Reviews

Amazing.5
I have never actually seen Starlight Express, but my older sister once saw it on a school trip to London. Now, as I live in Scotland, it's not very practical for my to visit to London just to see the show.
Anyway, my sister brought back this tape. I fell completely in love. I think this is absolutely amazing. I am only fourteen years old, but I think that this CD is brilliant. Electra's (Amoung others)voice is spine tingling, and the songs are breathtaking. I would strongly recommend this, and I only wish I had been lucky enough to see the show.

Revamped and improved5
First thing's first: This is NOT the Original CD. This AN Original CD. This is the rewritten Starlight Express from back in 1992.

This is an excellent CD that I reccommend to anyone getting into the show. This is the closest official recording when in comparison to the current London show.

This CD includes John Partridge (from the CATS video) as Electra, the electric train from the future. He gives a sizzling performance and sounds superb.

Lon Satton reaffirmes the fact that he is the definative Poppa by rejoing the cast for the revival.

Reva Rice shows true talent by giving a wonderful redition of Pearl and her version of "Make Up My Heart" is moving and well performed.

The only downside to this recording is the cut of some material but this can be expected on most recordings. Otherwise, excellent music, true talent and great lyrics makes this CD a must for the musicals fan and anyone else who'd like to see a truely different show!

Good but not great4
This CD - the New Starlight Express - is exactly what the title says it is. It contains music from the show as it's been running from 1993 on. Of course it's not like the 1984 album! The show has been modernized twice (it stops January 12th 2002 and might continue as a tour or as in Germany), and the 1984 album was recorded DURING 3 PERFORMANCES, the 1987 album was recorded without original cast members or they didn't sing the correct songs (AC/DC sang by a woman?!?!) while the 1993 album was STUDIO RECORDED. This makes a lot of difference, both to the atmosphere (which is partially missing on the 1993 album and totally gone on the 1987 album) and the clearity of the sound (which is best on the 1993 album). My advice would be to buy the 1984 AND 1993 CD's and you'll be able to hear the show evolve and modernize and then you can put your favorite songs together on a CD. The 1987 CD is nice to have when you're a collector, but does not give an accurate view of the show and lacks quality.
