Great album from a man with a great voice4
I have a compilation of country music which featured "Please Remember Me", which led me to this album. For someone who is not a massive country music fan, this was one of those which hits the mark.

Some country, come country-pop and a couple of ballads, TM sings with a degree of strength whilst not overpowering to the point of annoyance - no, he certainly does not annoy!

The other reviewers seem to know more about him than I do, but I guess he is married to Faith Hill and this is evident by the two tracks which feature the pair. I had a Faith Hill album, but found her too much of a power ballad singer for my liking and if I had one reservation about this album, those two tracks (total: 8 minutes) were the least effective for me.

However, "Please Remember Me" is a superb song and the rest are excellent and make the remaining 47 minutes a great experience.

Apart from the one I've mentioned, there are no other tracks which particularly stand-out, but this is just a consistent collection of great songs from a man with a very special voice - and therefore a great introduction to Tim.

The songs that made Tim a star5
This compilation contains most of the hits that established Tim's reputation as a contemporary country hit-maker. Beginning as a traditional country singer, his debut album attracted little interest and he gradually changed his style with each of his next four albums sounding less country than the one before. Those four albums are the source of the hits featured here.

Tim's main strength lies in his unerring ability to select exactly the right songs to appeal to the public and which also suit his voice. He made his major breakthrough with the controversial novelty song Indian outlaw, but none of his other hits here contain controversial lyrics. What you will find are a couple of duets with his wife (It's your love, Let's make love), some up-tempo songs (most notably I like it I love it) and a lot of ballads, among my favorites being Don't take the girl, Just to see you smile, My best friend and the amusing My next thirty years.

While some country fans objected to Tim's move away from traditional country music, album sales and singles chart placings justify Tim's decision. This compilation is a reminder that Tim was one of the most successful country singers of the nineties. He didn't stop there, as his inevitable second volume of hits will eventually confirm.

A HEART POUNDING AND SOUL WARMING SMASH!5
HERE IT IS, THE VERY BEST OF TIM MCGRAW. THERE IS SOMETHING TO MOVE EVEN THE COLDEST OF HEARTS. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE MOVED THEN PREPARE TO DANCE TO SONGS SUCH AS 'I LIKE IT, I LOVE IT.' IT'S ONE OF THOSE ALBUMS THAT YOU WILL LISTEN TO OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND NEVER GET BORED. TIM MCGRAW MAY HAVE BEEN CRITICISED LATELY FOR HIS MOVE TO THE POP SIDE OF COUNTRY, BUT THIS GREATEST HITS ALBUM HIGHLIGHTS THAT WHATEVER HE DOES, HE DOES IT WITH A MAGICAL EDGE. HE CLEARLY HAS A VERSITILE VOICE THAT ALL SHOULD GIVE A LISTEN.
