Product Description

The Detroit brother and sister duo provide raw bluesy rock for their second album. Most of the songs are deliberately simple, containing elements of The Stooges, MC5 and The Kinks. Blues-tinged garage rock scaled down to its most essentialelements, a guitar, drum kit and sneering vocals. Includes the singles 'Fell In Love With A Girl', 'Hotel Yorba' and 'Dead Leaves On The Dirty Ground'.

there is many a man5
there is many a man who doesn like the white stripes.

but they re also
fun
loud

he can write and play any style
and they shine through with a gleaming swagger here

Third time lucky...5
Whereas plenty of bands seem to get big before they've even released their debut long-player,(Franz Ferdinand,Bloc Party)the White Stripes weren't embraced by the wide world until this, their third album. Not that there was anything wrong with their first two, but this could still be their best, despite the irony that it went against some things that the band essentially stood for.
This time there were no blues, no covers, no guest instrumentalists, just Jack, Meg and their instinct and imaginations. Guitar, vocals and drums. That's it (having said that, their is plenty of feedback and down-tuning to fill in for the bottom end).
This album was the first musical anything that I ever bought, and what was a complete disinterest for music is now an unhealthy obsession. It could work for you too!
Another thing that I have noticed about the 'Stripes since then is that despite their self-imposed limitations, their music is a lot more varied compared to most bands. Don't expect'Sgt. Pepper's' though, ok?
Anyway, this is probably a good place to start, 'specially if you're not used to garage rock or blues, but you'll end up with the rest of their albums anyway, along with stuff by Billy Childish, the Gories, the Stooges, the Sonics, the Monks, Captain Beefheart...

wow....2 people can do this? Amazing! Really Original!5
For a 2 person band....this album is really good. When i first heard of this band I was disuaded by the fact that just Jack and Meg were in it. but, that was me being ignorrant. This band is so incredibly talented. They have created the voice that...."All you need are drums and guitar" to make a hit piece of music. Jacks riffs on guitar are really energetic and clean. Megs drumming is perfect for the environament of their band. The songs come to life with Jack's singing as well. I really like "Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground" but I also liked all the others as well. I enjoyed the dark track, 7; The Union Forever. I like the variety of different moods on this album. It gives everyone a piece to enjoy particularly. All In All, the Best White Stripes album. But this. You won't regret it!
