EXCELLENT MUST-BUY VIDEO
As a professionally trained dancer and teacher to children I have been studying videos for years and this is one of the best so far. With respect to another Irish reviewer on this site who says it is not good, I think they have not gone through the DVD's menus properly, There are five different instructors giving extremely detailed and repeated breakdowns of the moves which a total beginner could pick up and there is material for advanced dancers too. The interactive part of the DVD is explained at length in the introduction and you can pick different camera angles. True, when within a scene, you can't fwd or rewind, but then the scenes are divided up into short segments so you just start the segment again if you need to. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ANYTHING ABOUT TRUE HIP-HOP, BUY THIS DVD!!!
review of hip hop dance school 1
Ok for starters I'm not a professional dancer, but as I'm watching this instructional guide, I'm not expected to be, the dvd is aimed at beginners and intermediates at dance. There probably isn't enough on this dvd to challenge very advanced dancers, so if you have many years experience in hip hop, you probably know much of what is going to be shown.
That said, I think even for the professional dancer there is something for everyone on this dvd. It covers basic and advanced moves in many of the fields, and it provides a nice selection of about 8-10 moves in each discipline, and there are maybe 5 or 6 disciplines, so you get a good range, especially for a beginner there is plenty of material to work on.
The language is in french but there is an english voice over, which does exactly the same job, and it doesn't alter the content in the slightest, the speaking isn't the focus of the dvd, it is the movements broken down, which they do with practically every single one and you can always go back if you need more time on it.
Don't expect to grasp everything first time or maybe even the tenth time you watch it, if you watch a martial arts video you don't come away as bruce lee after an hour, the dancers on here have trained for years, some of them probably a decade or two, so don't expect miracles. But don't be disheartened, listen and watch what is shown and repeat it for yourself, and you will make progress quickly.
I expected this dvd to be disappointing and at the price not a cheap disappointment either, it was the complete opposite. I'm glad I've now got some material to work on and I review it and brush up with guidance any time I like. I have a camera angle button on my remote and 90% of the time it does nothing lol, but don't let that put you off, the moves are shown at different angles for you, so you don't really need to go looking for the angle button, it'd likely only confuse you to keep cycling through.
A very good dvd, could have maybe more moves in one or two areas or show some development exercises, and loses a star for having to use the english voice over. Enjoyable and a top buy for funk/street dancers
learn nothing!
this CD is really not what it says on the tin. there is no instruction or breakdown of the moves. all it is is one guy doing one routine, cant even halt or rewind it properly. it is supposed to be interactive and you are supposed to be able to see the dance from different views!!! dont bother with this one. its rubbish. waste of money.
