Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Ostensibly, you wouldn't imagine South Wales' croaky-voiced crooner and a voluminous Texan called Meat would have much reason to share an album. Common to both of them though, is the songwriting genius of Jim Steinman--a man whose aptitude for hysterically overwrought melodrama knows no parallel this side of Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Bonnie's "Holding Out For A Hero" is about as close as we get here to the kind of pop song that might go unnoticed in a crowd. The same, of course, can't be said for "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" which manages to make feeling a bit horny sound as gigantically ominous as the Cuban Missile Crisis. Perhaps inevitably, it's Meat who steals the show: "Bat Out Of Hell and "I'll Do Anything For Love" are tattooed on the folk psyche. It is, however, a delight to be reacquainted with "Dead Ringer For Love"--the scintillating mini-opera which, lest we forget, introduced Cher to a whole new generation of salivating adolescents. --Peter Paphides
Customer Reviews
Forget other reviews, this album is a true piece of art work
I once had this album and have just bought it again, it is possibly one of the most electrifying set of vocals you will hear on one album! With Bonnie Tyler's total eclipse and have you ever seen the rain sending shivers down your back, and Meatloaf's piercing vocals making your hair stand on end, you can't go wrong. This album is truly amazing and is one you can play repeatedly. Should you be a fan of one or the other, here you will love both. They do not sing together but they do not need to (although that would be good to listen to) they have everything they need on there own, I would recommend this to anyone who is a true music fan, and if you are new to either of the two this is the perfect album to start with. I give top marks to them both! Well done.
Beware
A con!! 2 great singers with fading careers have had there photo taken together, but don't actually sing together! This is not a new collection, but old songs strung together to make money out of their fans. Top marks for the music - minus 100 for the nerve.
Straight From The Heart
Although people have said that they were disappointed because they assumed this CD would have duets by Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler, I thought it was very good. I'm a big Tyler fan, but this was my first Meat Loaf CD and a great introduction. It's nice to be able to get so many good Steinman songs on one album. I do agree with the other reviewers, though, that a CD of Tyler/Meat Loaf duets would be excellent. Especially singing the duet version of Total Eclipse of the Heart.
