Review
For a few years now I have followed the careers of Jack Everett & David Coles and have thoroughly enjoyed all of their works but with Jihad-Britain they have excelled themselves. I would not have believed that anyone could have brought back the emotion of 9/11-watching the TV as people hurled themselves from the twin towers or as Police and Fire officers emerged from the wreckage covered in soot and smoke- but this book does that. The fact that it all takes place on the other side of the pond is immaterial, explosions are followed by falling buildings-St.Paul's Cathedral- and a death count beyond imagining and it brings home the horror of the moment as if it was yesterday. Yet this is only the opening sequence the book goes on to examine and test the actions of the few, the reasons why the bombers did so. It follows these individuals along with and hand in glove with the people directly concerned: the fall of the British Government, the appointment of a totally new political party, the little matter of choosing an island prison much as Guantanamo and the repatriation of Muslims wishing to leave the country for thir own safety. But this is not just a book about death and religious hatred it is a story of hope of how mixed cultures can fight together in the face of adversity; it shows that there can be heroes regardless of skin color or religious belief. In one strand of the book I got carried along with a self-employed electrician who-surrounded by hate and violence-escapes with his family only a few miles but to virtually a new world. This book is multi-stranded and is full of little gems. I recommend it to anyone. --Gyle Meredon
About the Author
David Coles first began writing fantasy and science fiction - encouraged by his parents condemning it as utter rubbish. He is proud to have attended workshops run by both of the UK writers, Terry Pratchett and the late David Gemmel, a process requiring late nights and copious alcohol. Jack Everett is author and co-author of a number of fantasy & science fiction, crime and thriller novels. Some are published, some are in progress and others remain between the ears as it were. Jack and David are the same age, though neither really wants to remember how long ago they started writing together. Together they have explored the local stars, killed off Romans by the legion and discovered Merlin's last resting place - and invented enough plots to bring happiness to an army of conspiracy theorists.
