Amazon.co.uk Review
Director Francis Coppola's adaptation of the popular SE Hinton novel about the price of rebellious youth is notable chiefly for the stunning cast of young actors who went on to rich and varied careers. In supporting roles, the film features the likes of Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Diane Lane, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, and Tom Waits, among others. The story centres on two rival gangs in the early 1960s Midwest, and the violent turf wars that escalate and tragically claim young lives. C Thomas Howell plays the central character who yearns to prove himself and be accepted by his older brothers' gang, while at the same time finding his first love and dreaming of a life beyond his dead end existence. Geared toward the teenage crowd, The Outsiders nonetheless features some fine direction from Coppola in a story that evokes memories of the classic coming-of-age films of the 1950s. --Robert Lane

Amazing
I absolutely love this film! I was introduced to it by my older sister and have loved it ever since.. The acting is super with a wicked cast- Tom cruise, Emilio Estevez, Patrick Swayze, C.Thomas Howell and more!! The characters are believeable and you feel a strong empathy with the central character Ponyboy!
I would reccommend this film aswell as the book to anyone!!
The most underrated of all Coppola's movies.
This movie is a clasic, with an all star cast " before" they hit major stardom. Stars such as Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio(Karate Kid) and cameos from stars such as Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe and Emilio Estevez this was always going to be a great movie. It is set in the mid twentieth century(1950's-1960's) and captures the great gap in class between the society that the two groups the greasers and the posh gang. It is a most touching movie with a very unexpecting twists and unforeseen circumstyances. This is a must see movie for everyone except it may not be suitable for younger children as it is a film for all and a cult classic.
the outsiders, the best looking blokes in the world!!
i have watched my copy of this film over and over again. its older than me because i cant find it on dvd anywhere (which is a disgrace!) i love it, it sports some of the best male talent in the film industry, both acting wise and appearance. matt dilon is really sexy. with his smouldering looks i could just melt and sodapop (rob lowe) is just the cutest thing ive ever seen. this is my favourite movie of all time and i love the fact that it has been so true to the book as well. i think it should be a rule that everyone in this world should watch it at least once. i cry everytime i watch it but there is only one word to describe its excellence, brilliant!!
