Synopsis
Following on from the title Streets of London several new and unpublished collections of material became available, allowing the author to compile a further selection of historic colour photographs recording London in the years between the end of World War 2 and the 1960s. "Bygone London" is further exploration of a changing city. Alongside photographs of long-departed trams and trolleybuses are rare colour images portraying the Festival of Britain in 1951 and other facets of Metropolitan life during these years.

Transport of Delight5
Once again Kevin McCormack has stirred the memories with this veritable feast of transport nostalgia. All the favourites can be found here including trams, trolleybuses, buses, coaches, steam locomotives, planes, boats, trains and even horses. But this volume also offers a reflection on the events of our life back in those early post-war days and I especially enjoyed the evocative scenes from both the Festival of Britain and Coronation. The author has such a keen eye for detail, especially in one scene where a solitary police officer is standing in the busy heart of Oxford Street which is festooned with Christmas lights. The policeman is quite hard to make out, since he is not wearing a high-visibility jacket! Altogether a thoroughly comprehensive overview of our erstwhile transport system and a valuable addition to the Kevin McCormack accredited series.
