Customer Reviews

for me, the best Miss Marple5
For characters like Sherlock Holmes or Miss Marple, who have been portrayed by various actors, most viewers will have a favorite.

Geraldine McEwan is my ideal Miss Marple. She combines intelligence and sharp powers of observation with a sense of humour and a good deal of panache.

The series was excellently scripted and cast, a real pleasure to watch once and again.

But the fact that I prefer Ms. McEwan does not mean that I would review other performers badly. I have watched and enjoyed other Miss Marples, including Margaret Rutherford, Helen Hayes, and Joan Hickson. Each of them brought something different to the role. I would not dream of trashing them simply because they were not my favorite.

Very amusing, but much maligned ...4
Geraldine McEwan's "Marple" seems to polarise reviewers, both here and on IMDB. I have watched almost all of the various incarnations of Agatha Christie's character, and although I believe Joan Hickson is overall the best, McEwan's version I find very amusing. Perhaps the plots have been messed about a bit, but there is a lot of humour here. To the detractors and pedants ... just relax and enjoy it.

a truly dire series. the only one episode that i felt was good, and it was very good, was murder at the vicarage. i think what spoilt it for me was a lot of comedians, who not so long ago were deriding the very same thing they have appeared in. it shows that they can easily be bought. you can tell even itv had no belief in it as it was on at very irregular times, and shown a long way behind other territories.
save your money.
