Customer Reviews
superbly stimulating book, recommended
Her best collection of essays since No Go the Bogeyman, these started life as a series of lectures. Warner examines the way in which different cultures and periods have responded to the concept of metamorphosis, from Ovid through Bosch to Philip Pullman. Though disappointingly short on popular culture, her grasp of literature, anthropology, psychology and painting is as impressive as it is lightly worn. She is pure pleasure to read whether you're a cultural historian, literature fanatic, SF geek or artist. Inspired by it, I'm going to see the exhibition at the Science Museum that accompanies it.
