Customer Reviews
The Contrast blast off in primetime!
After the fantastic fourth CD 'Forget to tell the Time' in 2006 (see my other reviews for details) I was a little apprehensive that this new 5th release wouldn't be as stunning as the last. I needn't have worried, this is just as awesome and confirms the band as the UK's finest export to the USA. Dave Reid's songwriting moves onwards and upwards and his more introspective songs (such as 'I've known your name forever'on this CD and 'mean' on the last) are what make The Contrast that little bit special. Dave Reids multi guitar style (from XTC to The Byrds via Talking Heads and Todd Rungren)and Andy Hawkins production perfectly suit these great new songs and new drummer Thorin Dixon and bassist Richard Mackman add a bit more of an edge to the recording. You know when they give you deals on Amazon for multi buying? well for once I'd say go for it - buy this and 'Forget to Tell the Time' and 'Fade Back In' and you will have a starting point for this great band. Oh and also get 'Wireless Days' and Mystery #1. I feel their US label Rainbow Quartz should do a box set - can't wait for the next one!.
