Fast transfer rate; No problems
Have had no problems with this. Transfer rate is very good I thought - 50GB in under and hour. Items are perfect when opening from the Verbatim Hard Drive. Have only used it to transfer photos and videos. Havent tried music or movies.
Nice looking piece of kit. Had no overheating problems or any problems whatsoever. Very happy with this purchase.
Beware - can your USB port provide enough power?
Bought one of these last week. Tried it on three different laptops (all Dell, but different models) and an Aries desktop with no success. Just a flashing blue light. Finally tried it in a Sony Vaio laptop and it worked (blue light remained lit, no flashing). Unfortunately this wasn't the machine I'd bought it for.
Checking the user manual I found a comment that if the device won't work you probably need a USB-Y lead to provide more power. They state this can be obtained through Verbatim tech support (email address provided)- there's no mention if there's a charge or not. I'm currently waiting for a response to my email requesting this lead.
Given that they know this is a potential issue they really should provide the 'twin' lead in the box instead of (or in addition to) the standard USB lead.
Does what it says on the tin.
After using a Iomega product for the last 12 Months that kept corrupting files this is a breath of fresh air. Quick write times and not a hint of a corrupted file... bliss. The unit is nice and small for carrying to and from work. The only thing stopping it getting 5 stars is that it is made from plastic, so I am not sure how good it will work after being dropped? After all it is a "portable" hard drive.
