Manufacturer's Description
DIVX compatability means you can enjoy watching your images downloaded via computer on your TV. Samsungs combination DVD player and VCR player / recorder is a great way to be able to play two recorded formats from one machine and save space by only having one unit. Progressive scan output scans individual picture lines in sequence rather than alternatively, maximising the clarity of digital images and bringing new realism to your DVD viewing experience. With front AV inputs, this also becomes a convenient way to watch your holiday camcorder footage (given suitable connections) or simply connect your gaming system into for on screen entertainment. Its slim design also means it will fit most under TV areas or cabinet spaces.
Use the DVD-V5600 to record on video even while watching a DVD. You can also transfer your films from DVD to VHS. This combo player can also play various other formats such as, DVD, CD, VHS, even DivX! The DVD-V5600 is equipped with the most prevalent audio decoder and complete connectivity to allow you to enjoy your films to the max! Excellent value for money, the DVD-V5600 will satisfy cinema- and TV-lovers everywhere!

Other units do the job better
I obtained this as a replacement under warranty for an older, equivalent model from a different manufacturer and I was surprised at just how badly it performs by comparison. Whilst I suspect the hardware is capable of performing the complete range of expected functions, I suspect this model badly needs a firmware upgrade to eliminate problems such as having to switch the whole unit off in order to ensure programmed recordings actually work (i.e. you have to interrupt DVD playback to switch off the unit so that a preset recording actually occurs) and confusing and contradictory remote control functions (e.g. VCR forward picture search performs a different set of operations to the VCR backward picture search). The whole thing just feels sloppy and rushed out of the door of the factory. Come on Samsung - I know you can do better!
not one to recommend
ive had nothing but problems with this machine but didnt use it often enough to realise that it was a fault with the machine, its very tempremental, the dvd door for instance sometimes wont open when u press the "open/close" button on the remote or the dvd player, it wont load dvds at times and then when it does the image cuts and fuzzes.
i wouldnt recommend getting this machine despite the price.
Poor service from Samsung - thank goodness for efficient amazon returns!
Samsung sent an engineer out to repair the machine as sound reproduction was faulty. Engineer sent back saying he couldn't fix and Samsung refused to supply a replacement unit. Fortunately Amazon customer service lived up to expectations and arranged a no hassle refund including an efficient collection
