MY TWO PENCE WORTH.....
Well it does everything they say really, plays all the formats listed. Picture quality is good and sound through the optical output is good as well.
Only thing wrong was it wasnt multi region out of the box. For those who may need to here is the way to do it:
1. Turn on dvd and wait for no disc to be displayed in panel
2. Press display control
3. Select video
4. Enter 1357 on remote
5. Use up and down arrows to select region (0-6)(region ) 0 = region free
6. Press display control to confirm
7. Your dvd should be on whichever region you chose.
Hope this helps.
Make it multi-region
The key to this unit is to setup the DISPLAY option (lower left on the remote). Here are my additions to another reviewer's suggestions:
1. Turn on dvd and wait for no disc to be displayed in panel
2. Press display control
3. Set the TV type to PAL
4. Set the Display type to wide (assuming you're on a wide-screen TV)
5. Select video
6. Enter 1357 on remote (note you do not see these numbers on screen)
7. Use up and down arrows to select region (0-6)(region ) 0 = region free (recommended)
8. Press display control to confirm
Very good machine
After looking at the various DVD players I chose the Sanyo (the first time I have tried this make) and Amazon delivered within a week.
I was very pleased with the looks of the machine, which is very easy to live with - unlike the Phillips which looks garish and cheap! The machine even comes with a scart lead which saves the extra cost and bother if you are not replacing an existing machine.
On test, the picture quality and sound are both excellent and vastly superior to my old Goodmans DVD player that it replaces.
I am puzzled by the comments on another review about it not being a multi region player - I found I had accidentally obtained a region 1 DVD (If the privateers must have regions, I wish they would mark them clearly). With this machine I managed to set it to region 0 - ready to play anything - in less than a minute. As the critics machine had a DVD already in it - and presuming that it was not supposed to be a used machine - perhaps they should have asked a few questions.
My only caveat would be that the disk drawer is a bit flimsy and may not survive use by a clumsy person or child. I would suspect though that all of the modern, slim, DVD players would have a similar weakness.
