Amazon.co.uk Review
Just as the new film is a great improvement on the already solid original, so too is Spider-Man 2: The Movie (the game) a significant improvement on previous video game simulations of New York's friendly neighbourhood web-slinger.
As you'd expect, the new game works along the same basic lines as the last one but is actually a very noble attempt to completely expand the concept and the way it's implemented. The biggest change is the that the game is now much more free-form, rather than being strictly mission based, and you can swing around New York City all you like, getting involved in side quests (such as stopping minor robberies) before getting around to the wider plot.
The actual business of web-slinging has been greatly improved so that your webbing now actually connects with buildings, instead of just attaching to thin air, and so the whole business of getting around the city becomes more "realistic". The combat system has also been completely overhauled, although it's still fair to say that the interior levels are far less entertaining than bouncing around New York and getting involved in aerial scraps.
The game realises this though and the majority of the action now takes place outside as you not only follow the plot of the movie, taking on main bad guy Dr Octopus, but also tackling some of Spidey's other villains from the comic books, including the Vulture, Rhino and Shocker--as well as meeting alternative love interest Black Cat. Hopefully someday all comic book games will be this good.--David Jenkins

Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can......
My God! A movie tie-in game that's actually not pants! (Yes HULK I'm talking about YOU!! )and has solved most of the problems from Spiderman 1.
My immediate impression of this game was WOW! There are no levels, just chapters, that take place in a totally free roaming environment and the actual use of Spiderman's powers is nothing less than fantastic. He's more agile than ever and as well as being able to do all the things we'd expect (jump, shoot webs, climb up walls etc) he can swing around poles and wall sprint (Prince of Persia anyone?) Of course, being Spidey means you've got the whole city to explore and you can travel just about everywhere!
Each chapter has a number of objectives for you to complete before you can advance the story onwards. This usually involves heading to a key location and maybe fight a boss or rescue hostages, but you can also do loads of other stuff en route. You can visit the shop to buy upgrades, collect secret tokens, complete trick challenges or just collect "Hero" points.
Hero points are earned by solving random crimes that pop up all over the city. Now at first this really adds to the fun and genuinely helps create a real atmosphere that you are indeed a free roaming super hero crimefighter, however this is probably the games biggest flaw. These random crimes soon become tiresome and too many seem to occur during some of the chapters which can quickly get dull, repetitive and lacking in variety. This is probably because the game is trying to stay loyal to the film (or maybe I'm just impatient and want to get to the next chapter?) but I find myself thinking "Oh no not another one!" most of the time. However, this is the only real flaw and the breath-taking freedom that Spidey demonstrates during the rest of the game more than makes up for it.
All in all, a refreshing free roaming game and an excellent movie-tie in which just lacks some variety at times.
Buy this game - Awesome
This game is by far the best game I have ever played. I know that is a bold statement but its awesome. Short of the fact you can go anywhere is NY and swing off anything (inc helicopters to the statue of liberty) the range of missions and challenges are mind-blowing. Aside from the main game story line there are 200 hint markers to be found, 4 sets of tokens to be found(150 x skyscraper, 50 x hideout etc) and a host of target based missions that range from easy swinging to a point to racing across the whole island while wall sprinting, web zipping and much more - Oh and once you have completed them it gives you a mega time to beat!
The range of combat upgrades are endless but you need to earn them by completing missions and gaining more hero points. Then you get to kick ass and do allsorts.
The graphics are excellent and don't flicker even when you get up to swing speed 8 (which is v.quick!)
You can finish this game in about 3 or 20 hours depending on how you play. However I took my time and finsihed it in about 12 hours and I am still playing and will do till I have done most of the missions and found the tokens.
A absolute bargain for 30 notes and would recommend it to any gamer - I have yet to find a bad point!

A swinging good time
What a blast! 5 hours in and I discovered the El, the elevated railway within Manhatton. When I stand stop the train Spidey folds his arms, standing there in a manner reminiscent of the 'King of the World' moment from the movie Titanic.
If that does not give you a flavour of how effective the graphics are in this wonderful game, then nothing will. With hardly any slowdown the game gives you the whole island as your playground. You can go wherever you like, even attempting to jump from buoy to buoy out in the harbour (no mean feat) in your attempt to win the numerous medals available. My favourite is the Skyscraper medal where you attempt to collect all 125 tokens from the highest buildings in the city. I have only found 50 after 7 hours gametime.
Occasionally the plot interferes forcing you to complete a certain scenario, some of which are damm hard. Chasing the Cat through the streets is a nightmare at times. I trashed my controller after one particularly frustrating session. I actually cannot get complete the Liberty Island chapter, so I have created another save file to go back and attempt to complete my medal haul. I am sure a cheat will come out eventually.
This is probably the best ever film tie-in. Buy it!
