Synopsis
A dark, atmospheric sci-fi thriller with a sharp sense of humour. When a spacecraft crashes on a mysterious planet, the remaining survivors turn to Riddick (Diesel), a convicted murderer, to help them survive. It appears that the only life form on the planet is a dangerous species of flesh-eating alien that emerges from underground when darkness appears. Before long, the abandoned passengers realise that a rare eclipse is about to immerse the planet in darkness, declaring open season on each and every one of them.

Enjoy the darkness in 720p/1080p4
A simple idea, well executed:

Put humans on same planet as aggressive creatures sensitive to light. Put planet into *long* eclipse. Watch as humans attempt to get off darkened planet as creatures try to kill them.

Sounds like yet another standard sci-fi horror flick, doesn't it? Wrong. This is a very good movie that features several characters who have several shades of grey. Worth buying the SD version, and existing fans of the movie will be pleased with the improved picture quality of the HD-DVD version, its hard to believe that this film was originally made in 1999 for a mere $20 million!

"Excellent Sci fi movie in High Def!"4
'Pitch Black' is a fun if derivative horror movie that is also notable for (almost) having launched a franchise. I enjoyed it a lot more than 'The Chronicles of Riddick,' and the film looks quite good on HD DVD. Though the soundtrack and supplements are not all that exciting, there are a few pithy bonus HD extras included. And in terms of sheer picture quality this disc offers a nice upgrade over the standard DVD release. So if you're a fan of the series, this one is worth considering for purchase.
