Adolf Hitler's career is traced from its early beginnings in Munich, and the nature of his movement is assessed. In this extensively revised fourth edition, the book also takes into account the large body of recent research on this controversial period, including debates on the nature of the German revolution of 1918-19, the relationship between political upheavals and economic crises, and the question of whether there really was an alternative to the Third Reich in January 1933.
