BRAVIA S3000 Series LCD TV

HD Ready

HD Ready

To appreciate just how good a high definition picture is, it helps to know how TV's, DVD's and VHS worked in the past. Until recently, there was only one type of broadcast format - Standard definition - SD. With SD, the level of detail in the picture resolution is limited. SD has a resolution of 720 X 576, which means 576 horizontal lines of 720 pixels each. Pixels are the dots which make up a digital picture. The new HD formats boost resolution far beyond SD, giving your TV a level of clarity and detail that is absolutely breathtaking.

Integrated Digital Tuner / Freeview

Integrated Digital Tuner / Freeview

Having an integrated Digital Freeview Tuner means that your TV has a built in receiver that will give you access to many more channels without the need to have any additional hardware, such as a Freeview box. In 2007, the government will begin switching UK broadcasting to digital, so if your TV doesn't have an integrated digital tuner feature you wont be able to view any channel without buying the additional hardware.

HDMI Sockets

HDMI Sockets

The S3000 LCD TV has 3 X HDMI sockets - 2 at the rear of the set and one at the side.

Your HDMI socket provides a connection point on your TV that is able to deliver a high definition picture. Quite simply, the more HDMI sockets that you have on your BRAVIA LCD TV, the more components you are able to link up to for HD picture quality, for instance, a Blu-ray player, your camcorder and your gaming console. Having the socket located in the front of the TV means that you no longer have to get into awkward positions or move the unit in order to gain access to the connection point, great if you're viewing your photos on your TV via your digital camera.

BRAVIA Theatre Sync

BRAVIA Theatre Sync

A one touch control over your whole Home theatre set up. Simply press the Theatre button on the TV's remote control, the TV's sound turns off & the picture settings configure automatically to an optimal movie watching mode. BRAVIA Theatre Sync cuts out the complexity so that you can concentrate on enjoying your movie.

Live Colour Creation

Live Colour Creation

Live Colour Creation is a backlight system which produces a wider colour gamut, seen particularly with the red and green areas of the spectrum. So your TV picture will have more lifelike and natural colours with no smudging or dulling of the image.

BRAVIA Engine

BRAVIA Engine

This picture enhancement technology ensures that the image produced on screen represents perfection.

  • It reduces colour distortion by decreasing 'cross colour', 'dot crawl' and 'moire' the sort of distortion that you get on patterns such as a checked shirt. It cleans up the haze that you often see around lettering such as titles or text so that they appear perfectly sharp on screen.

  • It enhances specific areas of low contrast within the image giving an overall crisp picture.

  • It smoothes the motion, preventing jagged edges and bleeding colours on fast moving objects, ideal for sports & action sequences.

  • It matches colours, which ensures the final image is reproduced exactly as the original source intended meaning that you see incredibly natural colours.

Dynamic Contrast

Dynamic Contrast

Contrast ratio is improved and all shades between the brightest white and the darkest blacks are maintained, so the picture has more depth and detail. This is achieved as the backlight brightness adjusts according to the brightness of the scene. Sony's unique dynamic contrast system features ACE (advanced contrast enhancer) which ensures all of the subtle shades of grey are maintained.

VESA Hole Spacing

VESA Hole Spacing

VESA-Standard or Video Electronics Standards Association is a perfect template for hole spacing (screw holes) in flat screens. So providing your wall bracket is also VESA standard, hanging your TV on the wall, for example, is a simple process without the frustration of drilling the holes incorrectly and in the wrong place.

    Excellent TV5
I've been wanting an LCD for years and finally took the plunge after coming across this TV on Amazon. I bought this TV about a month ago after having a 26" CRT TV for a few years. Delivery was super quick, only took two days. I was surprised just how big the TV is when I was unpacking it. It looks great. It has countless ports at the back and at the side. I haven't got any high-def equipment yet but I will probably get a PS3 at some point. I do have a Nintendo Wii and I recommend buying a Component Cable for it as the Wii didn't look so good when you're using Scart/Composite. As soon as I bought the cable, the picture looked so much sharper.

As soon as you switch the TV on, it'll find all the channels for you automatically and setup the Freeview channels. Only complaint I have is standard-def reception doesn't look so good on a HDTV LCD TV. Some of the freeview channels look blocky when you're sat close up. I've got used to it now and don't notice it so much. I understand though this is probably the case with every LCD TV so it's not specific to this one.

Overall, this is one of the best purchases I've ever made. It's an excellent TV at an excellent price.

Why buy an Audi R8 when you can have a Porsche!!!5
The quality of TV's like cars is such now that reliability and quality is rarely an issue. There are many great TV's out there and i was torn between Samsung, Toshiba and Sony. Samsung have become one of the front runners with quality and even style and almost seems like a safe choice with regards to value for money. Toshiba although not a blatently obvious choice it is as good as other brands out there. However i chose this Sony. The reason is quite simple. Think about the new Audi R8 (in TV language the Samsung). Its beautifull, reliable and turns heads. However when you see a Porsce Carrera (the Sony), even a slightly older one you automtically think passion, class, quality with a hint of arrogance, and you know its not a one night stand but a long term relationship. My Sony arrive 48 hours after order placement. To set-up took minutes. Spent 10 minutes optimising the settings for personal preference. Its a beautiful matt black which is kind of nice with the amount of gloss out there and sits in the corner of my lounge knowing its the best brand out there without having to show off. Welcome to my Porsche ladies and gentlemen and i am sure it will sit there in my lounge in gentle arrogance for a long time coming.

    Sony Bravia - Plug-in & Play!!!5
I debated the "Sony vs Panasonic" decision for some time prior to settling on this purchase, and with a budget of circa £450 wanted to ensure I'd get the best value for money. Both brands are worthy of any wall.

It ended up as a choice between a Panasonic Viera TX32LMD70 (which I was initially considering a John Lewiss Purchase, as they include 5ysrs warranty) and the Sony unit, but the Amazon cost saving finally swung the decision in the Sony's favour.

The TV arrived as promised. I hastely bolted the mounting bracket to the bedroon wall, plugged the TV power and Ariel in (after roughly throwing a £30 digital compatible Ariel into the loftspace and guessing the best transmission direction) and pressed the remote I/O button with anticipation, having disregarded the user manual as per a typical bloke.

After easily selecting the language and auto-tune function via the remote, the TV whizzed though the tuning procedure, getting 88 free-view channels almost immediately. The picture is stunning - thanks to the 8000:1 contrast ratio and on-screen controls are great and easy to adjust.

Sorry - bit of a long review but this Sony unit really is very well worth choosing for anyone with a similar budget in mind.
