Synopsis
This updated and re-imagined version of the classic 1970s sci-fi television show BATTLESTAR GALACTICA combines elements of STAR TREK, STAR WARS, and THE TERMINATOR. Human beings built the android Cylons to work as servants for them, only to have the robots rebel and disappear into space. A generation later, however, the Cylons returned to destroy their former masters, and succeeded in eliminating the 12 worlds that mankind inhabited. Luckily, one group of people has managed to escape the genocide, led by Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos), on board the massive space ship called Battlestar Galactica. But the struggle isn't over, as the ruthless Cylons continue to pursue the ship and the last surviving members of the human race. This vision of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA features a darker tone and CGI special effects, and shares with other science fiction sagas a warning about the misuse of advanced technology.

Outstanding drama series5

First of all, to anyone looking at this thinking of buying it, this is first and foremost an engaging drama series and secondly a science fiction show. Yes, there are space ships and robots and lasers and people being thrown to the deck every time an enemy missile hits home, but there is also betrayal, doubt, fear, love, kindness, pain, alienation, reconciliation and everything else you'd want in a show where you genuinely get close to the characters.

Yes, you do need to have watched the mini series to really understand the plot straight away, but you are thrown straight into the action with a first show that takes a simple idea and builds tension and all kinds of suspense around it. This sets the bar high for further episodes and you aren't let down. The plot twists and turns, the visuals are as good as you'll see in any big budget show (Resurrection Ship episodes for example), the characters build through careful scripting and acting. And it keeps on throwing up questions about morality and ethics and perceptions of good and evil. Incredible.

The show uses a lot of the ideas that surfaced in the original series but this is something just to cross reference, a lack of knowledge of the 70s series doesn't detract in anyway.

For sheer value for money, this set is hard to beat too. Buy it! Love it!

A most excellent adventure in Sci Fi!! :)5
The set is absolutely amazing, however there is a misprint on the packaging, it does not contain the Pilot Mini Series as it stated on the box, however the company that provided the boxed set, Universal-Playback at www.Universal-Playback.com will provide anyone who has the box set that says it contains the Mini Series and does not with the Mini Series Disc set free of charge upon provision of the original till receipt and a photocopy of the back of the packaging :), hope this helps you all out. Go to this link for information on how to receive your Mini Series set of discs.

There were apparentely a small amount printed with the error on the boxed set, however it is good that the company is providing the additional Discs, many thanks to Universal-Playback!! :)

Revising a classic...5
Fantastic revision of the 70s series, but much darker and more serious in tone. Definitely not one for children.

One word of warning though- the boxed set of Series 1 & 2 does NOT contain the pilot miniseries despite what it says on the box!
