Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
There's a steady pattern forming to seasons of Lost, where the narrative by turns manages to enthral and frustrate with equal measure. And the show's makers are clearly wise to this, as while elements of the third season revert to type, there's a clear and genuine effort to energise a programme that continues to stretch its simple premise as far as it can.

So while Lost still compromises of a group of plane crash survivors marooned on a mysterious island, there's plenty else being thrown into the pot. Season three finds new characters, greater exposition of the mysterious `others', the obligatory background character work, and a pronounced fracturing of relations between many of the survivors.

It too also manages to hint at some answers to the many conundrums that it continues to pose, not least a concluding episode that itself should keep fan debates fuelled until well into the next series. And, chief among its accomplishments, Lost still manages to keep us interested, and leaves plenty in the tank for the future as well.

In short, there's little danger you'll be short-changed by Lost season three thanks to its ideas, its nerve, and the continued clues it teasingly leaves along the way. As fascinating as it always was. --Jon Foster

Jacob loves you man...........5
The second series "lost it" a bit but Lost is back with a vengeance in Series 3. Terrific characters and a plot that even the most skilled clairvoyant couldnt guess make it impossible to stop watching even if (like me) you promised yourself only one episode each evening. I was sad to see some characters go (I won't tell you which ones....).
The way how each character plays a role in getting the group towards their goal, and the way the backstory is teased out for each character is terrific.

Lost is easily the best of the huge proliferation of big budget miniseries from the US, and I can't wait for Season 4. The BBC would never simply sit down and produce a great series like this - they always try to hard to introduce a contemporary angle e.g politics, racism, sexuality etc, they cant just tell a good story , which is done brilliantly by everyone involved in Lost.
I wish I could have my memory erased and watch them all again. You must however watch Series 1 and 2 do not even entertain watching this without having seen them.

In my opinion one of the best things made for the small screen.

If you haven't started watching this series...DONT!2
Like everyone else that leaves a review I have watched this series (I finished season 4 last night), I wish to god I hadn't but like Magnus Magneson "I've started so I'll finish!" with no spoilers here's a quick outline of the plot
Season 1 (24 episodes) There's a plane crash, survivors chill out on beach
Season 2 (23 episdes) They chill out on the beach some more
season 3 (22 episodes) yup.. still on the beach
season 4 (13 episodes...due to writers strike) they're on the beach and yep.. yes something is happening.. yep i can sense it.. it's all about to get.. no no wait.. hang on.. no nothing happens!

Can't wait for season 5!

Lost returns for its best season yet5

I have nothing but praise for this series of Lost. After Channel 4 lost the rights to Sky (which i don't have), I chose to wait till this box set came out rather than go on the internet for spoilers. In the time inbetween i forgot just how brilliant Lost could be at its best and when i sat down to watch this season - boy was i in for a treat!

Series 3 is Lost with all the fat trimmed away. Now 3 years down the line, anything less than essential has been largely left behind, ensuring a series that is slick, well-paced and delivers consistently episode after episode.

Whereas series 2 felt like a direct continuation from the first - series 3 has a very different feel. The addition of Ben and Juliet is great as their two characters are absolutely fantastic - quickly becoming central to the entire storyline. We also get to see a lot more of Desmond too, including his flashbacks which are some of the best out of all the characters'. Of course, we also get introduced to his power, which as it is revealed, we realise what a burden he has to carry.

The season itself is kinda divided into two sections - the first being Jack, Kate and Sawyer locked up in the Others camp, the second being in essence, things reaching boiling point as the two groups spark off against each-other, people double cross more times than you can count and startling revelations begin to emerge.

Flashbacks now take on less of a role of filling out the characters' pasts, instead being used more to emphasise a particular theme or idea for each episode and work all the better for it. This series has less of the patchwork quilt feel of the first two series where it felt like all the characters stories were intertwining but never quite meeting. Now they're all in it togetehr, because let's face it, if they tried to make it on their own they'd be dead before the day was out. This series is all about team-work and herois, self-sacrifice in the name of the greater good, for one character in particular.

The cliffhangers endings of each episode are done to perfection - i've lost count of the times i've sat down to watch one episode while eating my lunch only to end up watching about three - it is seriously addictive stuff. Things reach their climax in the final three episodes where it's pretty much edge-of-your-seat 100% tension for the whole duration as the season winds to an amazing finale.

I've said it time and time again but i don't get why people get so worked up about there supposedly 'never being any answers in Lost'. To tell you the truth, i don't really mind, to see these briliantly acted characters playing off against each other is just a joy to watch. Jack develops bucketloads in this series, becoming less clean-cut and decisive and all the more interesting because of this. Locke is as mysterious as ever, like Jack, becoming ever more darker - a theme, in fact which surrounds this series.

So, from the beautiful imagery and design of the island as a location to the masterful interaction of the various characters and the way they slot into the story - this is another resounding success. If you ever had any doubts about Lost, trust me, go into it with the right mindset, that of complete openess, and it well enchant you. Lost was always good but with series 3, it has truly excelled itself.
