Amazon.co.uk Review
Is there a finer medical programme on television right now than House? Sure, ER continues to grab the attention and acclaim, but even a powerhouse show such as that doesn't have such an ingenious creation at the heart of it as Hugh Laurie's award-winning Dr Gregory House.

The premise of House centres each episode around a diagnostic challenge for the blunt, brilliant, rude and unconventional Doctor and his team. The investigations into the various ailments even have a pseudo-CSI feel to them, generally set against the time-pressure of a rapidly degenerating patient.

Yet while the medicine enthrals, House is all about the characters. The superb supporting cast, including Omar Epps, Robert Sean Leonard and Lisa Edelstein, of long-suffering colleagues and staff are strong, providing the nucleus of a fair few story threads themselves. Yet it's Hugh Laurie's astonishing performance in the title role that makes it all work.

In Laurie's hands, Dr Gregory House becomes one of the most memorable television characters of recent times, replacing snide comments and sarcasm at a point where a calm bedside manner would be far more appropriate. Across the three seasons in this terrific boxset, therefore, he makes more than his fair share of enemies, including a police detective intent on sending him down and a patient or two who look to exact some form of revenge.

Anchored by razor-sharp writing, House is, undoubtedly, a major success and a highly enjoyable television programme. And with over 60 episodes to enjoy here, this collection of the first three seasons is a terrific investment. --Simon Brew

Synopsis
Part E.R. and part C.S.I., HOUSE is a medical mystery television show that's appealing due to its creative camerawork, interesting characters, and twisting plotlines. Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is a brilliant medical professional, but often alienates his patients and co-workers because of his abrasive manner and bitterness. In each episode House is faced with a person exhibiting a number of unusual symptoms, and along with his team of dedicated doctors and nurses, must discover what strange illness is afflicting the patient...before it's too late! The show moves at a rapid pace, spurred by its turning and suspenseful plotlines and the lively interaction between the characters, played by a strong supporting cast that includes Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, and Sela Ward. This collection gathers every episode in the first three series of the Golden-Globe-winning show.

House Rules5
The key character of this series, House, would not win any carer of the year awards, but as a television drama it excels as compelling medical drama. I enjoyed the three seasons, with the development of the supporting characters, the disease de jour episode format and the irascible acting of Mr. Laurie who infuses House with mordant wit and a cutting sarcasm. It is enjoyable as well to see how the writers link the main characters with a certain Mr. Doyle earlier creation: i.e. House/Wilson & Holmes/Watson. Finally whilst the price of the DVD set is excellent, the extra features are fairly non-existent

WHY NO SUBTITLES ?3
I am Sooooo angry, I have been watching, and enjoying enormously, the repeats of House season 2 every day Channel 5, and then season 3 on Thursday evenings on 5 US. As I am hard of hearing and the dialogue is sometimes fast and technical, I always have the sub-titles turned ON. So can you imagine how I felt when I received this box set of Series 1, 2 & 3 for 35 GBP to find there are NO Bleeping Subtitles. I should have read all the Amazon reviews before I bought it.
Thanks Universal, great job, at the bottom of the back cover, in tiny print, it says SUBTITLE TRACKS and then in an even smaller font NONE. Good job I've recorded most of the repeats with the sub titles included. No wonder people download bootlegs.

I Can't Believe I Missed This.5
House is one of those shows that you miss when it has run its first season and you missed it, yet you constantly hear your friends talk about it. You think that because it's so popular, it must be terrible, as that's simply the way it goes sometimes as TV shows that have such a massive mainstream popularity tend to be shallow and generally not very good. House is different, so different in fact that they have a great British comic actor play a genius M.D. by the name of Gregory House.

Medical shows through the history of television tend to be quite cliché and something that isn't too gripping. House is different. It brings the American medical drama into a completely new direction and revives the whole genre. House specialises is mystery cases and most of the time the simplest answer isn't always the right one. For an American show the intelligence of it is inspiring. It doesn't take you for an idiot and uses the medical terms in the way they would be used in life. Tt doesn't patronise the viewer, and it manages to teach you about the rare condition in a way that doesn't treat you like a moron.

Hugh Laurie is truly amazing and I think a star that nobody expected to work in the role. The character of House is amazing, he's a genius doctor who, in the sub-plots when he's placed in the walk in clinic the character really shines. We are given someone who seems to not care, he seems simply un-interested in his walk in patients. That's not the case at all as when he engages in the patients, he gives them a diagnostic within seconds and sends them on their way. He's a true modern eccentric that, when dealing with a serious case he is willing to do whatever necessary to help cure the patient. Needless to say that with shows like this you can be given an excellent main character and a less than mediocre supporting cast. This separates House from the crowd once again, as the supporting cast are equally brilliant in their roles. Omar Epps, Lisa Edelstein and Jesse Spencer are just three of the overly amazing supporting cast of the show.

I only caught this show for season 4 after a friend of mine convinced me to give it a go. I was skeptical at first but now feel like punching myself for overlooking such a remarkable show. Although Laurie has won golden globes for the show, I have no doubt that if they took the risk and made a movie Laurie would win an Oscar. Which in my book would be well deserved.
