This book is a work in progress. Jeanette Gower puts down all she has learnt (So far) about how horses inherit coat colour from years of breeding, judging, reading and having an interest in this subject. The technical stuff has to be grasped first so that you understand the principles of what she is saying but this is o'level biology so if you get stuck on it ask your kids. The whole book contains so much detail that you will have to keep referring to it but it is put forward in a clear and concise way with many interesting real life anecdotes. There is nothing like this around unless you want to wade through wordy articles in scientific journals and academic papers. Anette Gower has done the job for you. Fascinating photos too.
One of my favourite books.
This is an exceptional book. The variety of horse and pony coat colours, both photographed and drawn, is a real eye-opener and quite fascinating, but some of the colour names might be regarded as rather baffling to readers in Europe. Additionally, many readers might be totally overwhelmed by the seemingly very complicated genetic terminology, formulae and predictions. I do not agree with all that is written in this book, but if you remain open-minded, this is a book that will draw you back repeatedly.
