Product Description
In less than twenty-four hours a vicious and virulent viral epidemic destroys virtually all of the population. Billions are killed, within minutes. There are no symptoms and no warnings; within moments of infection each victim suffers a violent and agonising death. At the end of ten minutes, only a handful of survivors remain. By the end of the first day those survivors wish they were dead. By the end of the first week, as the dead get up and walk, they know they are in hell. AUTUMN, the classic free underground novel finally bursts into the mainstream. It is cold, dark, relentless - and uncomfortably plausible, a NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD for the 21st Century. Amazon said: 'The perfect zombie story, nothing written in the genre has grabbed me in the same way as AUTUMN, an equal to Romero's Night of the Living Dead'.

Hmmmm
As an avid reader of the horror genre i found this book extremely amateurly written, his constant use of swearing used in the dialogue of characters seemed to be used just for the sake of swearing! The story in general felt very jumpy with detail about the general environment rather lacking, i also felt that he had rather a small vocabulary as while reading i occassionally came across the same discriptive words used 3 times in one paragraph.
All in all a rather disappointing read
Sorry, but...
I'm a great fan of the zombie genre so I was really looking forward to this. However I found it to be the one thing that a zombie novel shouldn't be able to be...dull.
Everything was just so laid back. There was no sense of urgency or menace. The descriptions were there but I just didn't feel it. The characters were paper thin and it was impossible to empathise with them. The decisions they made were wildly irrational with no attempt made by the author to justify them.
Sorry. Really wanted to like this but it just has too many weak points.
I haven't tried the sequels, so there may be an improvement, but based on this offering I wouldn't bother. Go for the Walking Dead series by Robert Kirkman or The Mammoth Book of Zombies if you can get it. Terrible title but actually an excellent collection of interesting zombie related short stories.
Mediocre
This book is good in places, but I found it pretty slow and too much emphasis on character emotions, it just seemed to really slow down the pace of the the book. Also, not alot happens in it, apart from alot of people crying.
