Customer Reviews
Wake me up when it's over!
I bought this book, having glanced at reviews of similar ilk, and frankly. wish I hadn't. I wanted to find out more about the actor, the man, his likes & dislikes. Because I loathe and distrust fan sites I thought the book would do it for me. Instead I discovered that, to me at least, it seemed to be more an exercise in revealing the authors extensive knowledge of films & the film world and simply for the sake of its title, concentrating on Johnny Depp.
I found myself wading, scan reading & yawning my way through what appeared to be lots of little mini-biographies of other people Depp had worked with. I really didn't want to know that much about these people and felt that with all that padding removed it would only amount to a very thin book.
Sorry to be so negative but I was, for once, truly dissappointed with my Birthday present.
Johnny Depp A Kind Of illusion
This book gives mini biographys of people who Johnny Depp has worked with and gives you information about his homelife and how things were when he was younger and how he wanted to be in the music career and not in the acting at first. If you are looking for a book telling you about his favourite food and favourite colour this isn't the book for you because there will probably never be a book like that, Johnny Depp has a mystery about him and has kept himself out of the public view, he is a hollywood outsider, and this book shows how different he is to the rest. Worth every penny. ****
Depends what you're looking for
Far from providing a great deal of insight into the man itself, 'A Kind Of Illusion' is more a comprehensive analysis of his filmography. I received this book hoping to find out more about the actor himself and what shaped him into who he is today. Instead I found a rather tedious series of bias reviews of his films. Buy this if you're more interested in Depp's career than his personal life although it does provide snippets of information about his life that could be of some interest.
