Manufacturer's Description

i-Dog(e-Dog) – Begging For the Beat!

i-Dog (e-Dog) is the brand new groovy pooch that’s ready to rock-out to whatever tune you’re playing! Plug your music player into him and he will act as a portable speaker so whether you are at home or out and about you can listen to your favourite tunes wherever you go.i-Dog (e-Dog) loves to groove and can respond to any sound source – simply place him next to a speaker and let him get down or plug in your personal MP3 or CD player and watch him go.

i-Dog’s(e-Dog) mood changes depending on the kind of music you play – if you want to rock he’ll show some attitude and flash his red LEDs in a ‘mean n moody’ way. You want to chill and he’ll relax into the vibe, expressing himself with some mellow dancing and soft green and yellow LEDs.

i-Dog (e-Dog) needs your love too – give him a pat on the head and he’ll love you right back. But don’t flick his tail – you won’t like him when you flick his tail! And be warned – you’ve got to keep ‘feeding’ him more music! If you don’t he’ll bark to let you know he’s hungry for more.

The i-dog is cute, small and fun to interact with. I have spent hours playing with my idog and it has yet to get old with me. I have the pink 'love' version (as my ipod is pink too)
It has two modes, a pet mode and a music mode. During the pet mode the dog will express how it is feeling and what it wants (music, discipline etc). Limited in it's range, any more and it'll would have gotten too confusing and annoying. Very easy to use.
Music mode: the dog will play a range of music from its internal database for you. The longer the music the more happy it is. It remembers your favourite music and will play them back to you (to make you happy i guess). Note: music gets erased when the batteries are changed.

It also has a microphone, but this last 4 seconds. Enough said.

Sadly the flaws outweight the good within the product when playing music. Yes, the dog does learn to respond to your music and yes it does pretty much what it says on the box. What it doesn't do is allow you to just 'plug and play'. After 5 minutes it will shut itself off, which is very annoying if you wish to play music for upto a hour or so without disturbing it or yourself. There's no way to stop it doing this either, which has been highly frustrating.
Also when the head and ears move during music playing - they are loud. You have to have your ipod or music source near full volume to hide the noise the head makes when moving to the music.
Distortion is a problem at high volume.
The battery life (it requires 3 triple As) only lasts about 3 hours. There is no charge function within this product.

If you do not already have a dual jack headphone lead then you can pick one up online or from maplins (can be costly though)

But at the end of the day it is a toy and you get given what you pay for. Its worth the cost. I would say the age range is about 8+. Mainly a girly product as well.

A new black idog will be out in 2006. I get the impression another second version will follow shortly with a better database, less noise and better sound quality. If you do not have a lot of money to spare then I'd wait for a better quality product to be made.

    Not Just For Kids5
I bought this for my 17 yearold daughter for christmas 05 it was like having a 5year old in the house This must be the best present she has had for a long time apart from the i pod itself. The only thing is it eats battries like ther is not tomorrow. Every one in the family thinks he is great fun from 17 to 66 we have all enjoyed it.

    Great fun for all ages5
Firstly I'd like to say I don't have an i-pod mp3 player, i-dog will work with any mp3 player and i even plug him into the laptop sometimes but he'll also sense musi around him.

Dead simple, absolutely great fun and packed with personality. For something so simple I have to admit I expected to get tired of it but he's still really good fun and the fact he can also be used as a speaker is useful as well
