Customer Reviews
YOU'LL NEVER KNOW UNLESS YOU TRY IT
The Mavericks stare stonily out from the backdrop of a clear blue sky and pebbled beach. Like the rest of the group, lead singer Raul Malo looks hot (sunburnt!), but surprisingly not bothered ... which is rather apt as that sums up the self-titled album by the Mavs.
The frentic backing to Malo’s laconic vocals opens the listeners ears. ‘You’ll Never Know’ is followed by ‘End Of The Line’ another toe-tappin’ tune. ‘This Broken Heart’, with which I am very familiar, slows the momentum ... the haunting ‘Mr Jones’ carries on in the same vein. ‘I Don’t Care (If You Love Me Anymore)’ reappears on another Mavs ‘Music For All Occassions’ as a tub-thumping anthem, here it is much slower. I suspect, like James Bond, whichever version you heard first will appeal the most!
A quality album, where the raw talent of the group and the unique Tex-Mex sound on which their music is based can be heard loud and clear.
